yeah it's honestly pretty cheap, and since it's for kids it's a smaller version than what it'd normally be. it works, but it's just a smidge disappointing

Running him as VC on the ticket (with Vance at the top probably) would be their play I think. It's ambiguous on if this is allowed or not. Putin did that when Russia had term limits (then he got rid of them).

Personally I don't really get why they did it, but I'm not sad about it either. Quite honestly, I think there is a huge potential in making a game like that as psychological horror. No human could ever come up with something that surreal and bizarre.

Imagine the end sequence of MGS2, where everything is going haywire, if shit like that started happening out of nowhere.

This is part of why I love World Trigger so much. Despite failing at its original premise (alien invasion story) it manages to dodge so many of the common Shonen pitfalls that don't actually make much sense if you think them through. Osamu; the main character, has low "Trion" (think mana and you're 90% of the way there). This means his body is weaker than most of his peers. He cannot use his weapons as freely as his peers. And when he eventually switches to shooting magic bullets his are weaker and fly shorter than other shooters.

And you might think, "Oh but surely through the power of hard work he'll win" and no. Not often. He honestly gets carried by his friends more often than not. But they make a big show of how even if he works his ass off and fights with incredible determination...there are people who have both talent and determination. Or talent and hard work / genius. In fact it's incredibly rude to think that only he is working hard or digging deep.

But over the course of the manga he's managed to find a fighting style that works for him. It's not glamorous, often relies on help from people more capable than him, but he can fight. And he can fight with and against the best of them. But it's never treated as an asspull. He never whips out some brand new power you couldn't have expected. There's always a simply logical follow through for why he won.

Spoilers for the end of the most recent anime arc. The guy Osamu shoots at is the #1 ranked Shooter in the entire organization. This guy is insanely talented, and the reason this strategy works is threefold. One: The person who could have stopped Osamu from attacking got taken down by another of Osamu's allies. Two, Kuma (the kid flying around above him) is an extremely skilled combatant and everyone knows to focus him because he's the biggest threat on the team. Three: Each bullet type has different power levels, but Osamu is actually so weak that nobody could tell he was using Hound bullets with their tracking turned off. Hound is supposed to be weaker than other bullets; a trade-off for their automatic homing qualities. Thus most skilled people will instinctively know which kind of bullet is fired at them and how to respond appropriately. But Osamu's bullets are innately so weak this guy couldn't tell the difference and decided not to block. And the best part is that none of this is new information. Osamu has used Kuga as bait multiple times. The reason Ninomiya even knew to dodge was because they've done similar tricks like this before. That's why everyone is shocked by Ninomiya simply dodging. To all the onlookers it feels like Osamu has successfully trapped Ninomiya and pulled off a perfect pincer. Having that dodged was (to everyone except Osamu's team) totally unexpected. For most readers it's unexpected too, and for the strategy to go one step beyond with Hound. It's just perfect. Absolutely exceeded all expectations. If Ninomiya had been thinking a little more clearly he might have even noticed the Hound, because one of Osamu's other allies "discovered" the trick by doing the same thing with Viper Bullets (Vipers are similar to Hounds but you can pre-program a flight-plan. They're harder to use but if you get good at them you can do some really tricky stuff).

No asspulls, no power of friendship, no "I worked harder than you so now I'm better than you" shonen bullshit. Just clear tactics and strategy paying off. Love it.

And the more recent manga arcs have even proven that Osamu's not actually getting carried. His friends tend to be insanely overpowered and talented compared to him, but his real strength is making use of the pieces given to him. One of the more recent arcs forced the teams to shuffle as a simulation of what might happen in a war zone if you can't find your teammates (no seriously, this manga is basically all pvp battle sims, lol). Osamu still managed to be a relevant threat by learning how to draw out the most from his new teammates.

That said World Trigger does have some problems. One is a cast of like 200+ characters because this author decided to make sure that every single squad in a military org was a fully fleshed out character and sometimes the story takes very lengthy detours to explain why the author thinks these particular people are cool. The second is that the original premise just...kind of doesn't happen. It's supposed to be a sci-fi military alien invasion story. It's done. Two, maybe three arcs that are actually about an invasion? The entire rest of the manga has been in various simulations or PVP events such that World Trigger is closer in tone to a sports manga than it is shonen battle manga. It's cool as hell and the character moments are top notch, but if you want to read something that actually makes consistent progress towards the character's objectives...well. One Piece is probably faster >.>

Yeah, that's why Knuckleduster is the way he is in Vigilantes btw. He's meant to be a take on what Deku might have looked like if he'd stuck with his original plan, lol.
