The first movie wasn't a flop financially. It made bank, by hundreds of millions. That's what caused WB to try to lean into the Suicide Squad brand.

I'm almost certain they were thinking of an FFVIIR-tier of remake, which I don't think anybody wants.

Something along the lines of Visions of Mana or that Trials of Mana remake would work best, IMO.

While I'm not super excited about the remakester, they did say it's just one of the projects they've got cooking up. Hopefully one of them is a proper sequel that improves in every way on the original.

On May 9, during an earnings call, Warner Bros. revealed that it was taking a $200 million loss on Suicide Squad making it one of the gaming worlds worst blunders.
Behind the scenes, according to interviews with nearly two dozen people who requested anonymity because they werent authorized to speak to the press, the development of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was a tumultuous affair, plagued by countless delays. The game failed for a number of reasons, said the people, including a constantly shifting vision, a culture of rigid perfectionism and a genre pivot that was ill-suited for the studio. A spokesperson for Warner Bros. Games declined to comment.

At its gaming studio in Montreal, Warner Bros. already had a Suicide Squad video game that was struggling to gel. With the stakes heightened, Haddad pulled the plug and turned, instead, to the most prestigious of the companys dozen video-game studios.
Founded in London in 2004, Rocksteady had grown into an industry darling thanks to Batman: Arkham, a series of games that was revered by critics and sold millions of copies. Following Rocksteadys third and final installment, which came out in 2015, the studios co-founders Jamie Walker and Sefton Hill, eager to do something different, started working on a prototype of an original multiplayerpuzzle-solving game, codenamed Stones.
Around the end of 2016, Walker and Hill told their staff thered been a change of plans. Stones was out. Suicide Squad was in. According to people who attended the meetings, Hill explained that he saw it as a better opportunity than making something new from scratch and that the company hoped to release the game in 2019 or 2020.

During the early days, the studio kept its work on Suicide Squad a secret, even from potential hires. Several people who came on board during this era said they were surprised when they first arrived at the offices to learn that they would be working on a multiplayer game, not at all what Rocksteady was known for. Many would depart as a result.
Over time, the leaders vision kept morphing, most notably switching from an emphasis on melee combat to heavily focusing on guns. The change left some staff members wondering why protagonists such as Captain Boomerang, known for fighting with his namesake weapon, would suddenly pivot to gunplay.

Staff members sometimes waited weeks or months for Hill, the studios perfectionist co-founder and director of the game, to review their work, said the people familiar, creating a bottleneck that further slowed development. He scrapped big chunks of the script and struggled to convey his evolving ideas, they said, confessing that he hadnt spent much time with competing games such as Destiny. The constant delays hurt morale and led staff to fret that they were discarding too much andfailing to make real progress.
At one point, Hill pitched an elaborate system of vehicles that would allow players to deck out cars with weapons and navigate through the games alien-infested streets. But each of the four playable characters were already outfitted with modes of traveling, leading to more doubts among staffers. Why, they wondered, would players using Deadshot or King Shark bother with a motorcycle when they could just soar through the air? After months of experimentation and prototyping, the vehicle system was scrapped.

Multiple people who worked on the project say their growing concerns were often met with promises from management that Suicide Squad would eventually coalesce at the last minute, just as the Arkham games had. Several employees adopted the term toxic positivity to describe the culture of the company, which discouraged criticism. Leadership didnt seem worried, they say, even as other traditionally single-player game studios that chased the live-service trend were delivering abysmal results with games such as Anthem (which earned a lowly score of 59 out of 100 on Metacritic), Marvels Avengers (67 out of 100) and Redfall (56 out of 100).

TL;DR: The studio was forced into a type of game they had zero experience over and was complicated by an overly-ambitious co-founder's visions (it's a wonder their previous games turned out so well I guess), Hill and Walker left in 2022, promoting a couple of longtime devs as new leaders. Hill and Walker started a new game studio "Hundred Star Games."

Thankfully, there does seem to be some good news: Rocksteady is not going down.

Despite the painful setback, Warner Bros. isnt giving up on video games, a $262 billion global industry, according to PwC, that will grow to $312 billion in 2027. During the February meeting in London, Haddad said that Warner Bros. Games was looking to do more collaboration between its dozen studios and that the company was understaffed compared to competing publishers, so job cuts at Rocksteady wouldnt make sense.
Many of the studios employees are now helping to develop a new directors cut version of Hogwarts Legacy. At the same time, according to people familiar, the studio leaders are looking to pitch a new single-player game, which would return Rocksteady to its roots.
I think theyll definitely get another at-bat, said TD Cowen analyst Doug Creutz. Hopefully with something more aligned with their demonstrated talents.

My guess is this is part of their "Content Authenticity Initiative" which is designed to combat deepfakes. Adobe wants to embed an encrypted chunk into every file they produce that tracks exactly what was done so that they can certify the media for public consumption, with the ultimate goal of having a server people can hit to validate whether an image is authentic or not based on the audit trail of the encrypted file.

If I'm reading it right, its just access. They're not claiming ownership over anything, but saying you need to consent to them being able to remotely analyze any file produced in their software.

The problem is that nobody believes that it would be for purposes like this due to them adding generative AI to their program.
This would still violate NDA in businesses anyway.

On top of not being able to uninstall it or cancel subscription unless you agree to those terms, they just shot themselves in the foot with business support.

I don't usually go this way, but...there's something oddly suspicious about someone complaining about too much story and cutscenes when they buy a Final Fantasy game (or any other jRPG) of all things.

I'd honestly more believe if it showed up in the general Summer Games Fest, but who knows.

I would argue RE4, the remake specifically. Maybe classic RE2 as well?

At the very least those are the only RE games where I truly felt like I was having fun the entire way through and didn't feel "ugh, this part".

What you implied was that people would have a hard time if they didn't do side content, not that it makes it impossible.

After two regions I decided to skip most of the side content to get to the end and aside from a couple late-game fights I finished without much struggle. Doing 100% is more for preparing for late-game optional challenges including Hard mode.

Yep, they shut down the studio.

It honestly makes you worry about their other studio acquisitions. Like sure, they're not gonna shut down Bethesda and Activision of all things, but the smaller studios for sure might be in jeopardy. Ninja Theory might be next.

I don't mind those activities if it feels like the rewards or what I gain from them is substantial but in this game it really doesn't feel that way. We definitely have different ideas of what "hilariously broken" means. Enemy Skill has 3-4 good skills, rest are pretty meh. Stat gains dont mean much in particular the 5% Hp gain, because there is a hard cap in the game and one maxed HP materia gets you there. So the 5% from the Enemy Skill materia just gets wasted. Stuff like that feels ridiculously stupid and annoying, drives me crazy.

Or take for instance the Gilgamesh sidequest which spans the entire game and ranges from tedious to okay, all for a super medicore summon(all summons are pretty meh with how they work), one decent accessory that removes an arbitrary damage limit(this seriously couldn't have some something else in addition to make it more exciting?) and two ridiculously bad Genji accessories that are trash. This kind of stuff is all over in this game, that's just the worst one that comes to mind.

I miss the old days of Final Fantasy, where they weren't as concerned with balancing the fun out of everything.

Best example of your complaint is probably the Ribbon being locked behind a ridiculously tough 3D Brawler minigame. I did it, but it really wasn't worth it, you really don't need the ribbon and can get by without it pretty easily.

I feel like they do this because they're overly concerned with "balance" and don't want you to get too overpowered and trivialize the game. Which sucks, I know. It's a single-player game, let players be OP if they want to.

Since it's the final game in the trilogy and logically the end of the OG adventure, they should just let loose with the balance restrictions and actually give you pretty substantial OP options like unlocking the ability to use two or even three accessory slots, finally allowing Materia duplication upon mastery, Master Materia to let you use all abilities of their respective colors, etc.

In a way, the reason why they're going so ham with expanding each and every aspect of the original (whether it's successful in making them better or worse outside of the new plot stuff is up to the individual) is because they have huge respect towards the original and its fans, so them turning it into a trilogy-long epic adventure with higher stakes to make sure nothing is cut is their way of paying respect. We're likely not gonna get another FF of this caliber, which kinda sucks IMO because Rebirth is pretty close to what I'd want future FFs to follow.

IIRC you learn of James' wife at the very beginning, but not Maria's purpose. She's supposed to look just like his wife though.

I was watching the TotK segment on GDC and was fascinated about how they designed the sound of their world.

I might also have to just not be afraid to use already-made assets until I get Blender down. I just have to make sure styles don't clash when I'm doing that.

I'm just in a mental block of sorts. Even though I know what I want and I have a small idea of Blender's features, it's like I'm paralyzed and am just sitting here just staring at the screen.

It sounds an awful lot like the Rapture that they've been preaching about.

Because losing to that boss was not great.

This time if you die to the boss, you can go right back to the beginning of the fight as an option, so you don't have to sit through the long scene again.

I saw someone have a theory about Maria's design. Not really based off of anything we see in the actual game but on correlation with other Silent Hill games, which might come true if Konami is overseeing development.

The Maria side mission for the OG SH2 had Maria start off as timid and scared before she eventually got taken over, becoming the seductress from James's lustful desires. In the remake footage, she exhibits this timidness within the hospital, which should be shortly after meeting her. The theory is that she might either slowly transform into a seductress over the course of the game thanks to James, or they might take player choice into effect in terms of how you treat her, whether as a person or object. They could have her outfit change depending on this, similar to how Cybil's uniform changes depending on your actions in Shattered Memories.

I think this would be a neat idea.

SMB Deluxe on the Game Boy Color. Not a bad version to be introduced to the game, all things considered.

It's not our problem that budgets have ballooned with 300+ member teams, insane marketing budgets and the endless pursuit of insane graphics and having to fully voice act everything. That's their problem and their choice.

It's a remnant of them trying to chase the highest-fidelity graphics as possible because that's what sold the most. It probably still does to some extent, but I think graphics have gone into "good enough" territory now to where they don't have to do that anymore. Especially with the successes seen in the indie scene and lesser-budget games like Hi-Fi Rush now.

Same. Some people need to get off their high horse. I REALLY WISH Trump getting convicted means he'd get jailtime and wouldn't be allowed to run again. I really fucking do.
