A lot of "nobody cares" items in this Direct. Nintendo needs to be putting on a much better showing than what they are doing. This is a launch year for a console - remasters, ports, DLC, and lazy low quality "looks like a Switch 1 game" titles are not in their best interest.

I'm really tired of Nintendo chasing trends from 10 years ago and forcing devs to shove a pointless empty open world into every game. Not every franchise supports that design. The desert in that trailer was really, really sparse looking.

IIRC Sakamoto is minimally involved in Dread (or Metroid in general ever since) outside of the historical development or general guidance. Metroid titles since then have been farmed out to other studios.

My guess is he got quietly demoted after Other M.

It's an okay game but only if you don't try to 100% it. Similar rule of thumb as Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom.

It becomes a REALLY shitty game when you try to 100% it. The blue coins and the game's lack of any coherent tracking system for them is one of the worst systems I've ever seen in a 3D platformer.

Even with a strategy guide (which I have), the blue coins are incredibly obtusely placed.

It's so upsetting that their brain is just gone. Makes me not want to ever have kids because then I'll have to deal with that.

Why can't we just have another Sonic Adventure-style game? 06 had the potential to be something cool (ridiculous story aside).

You haven't played Heroes since you were a kid, have you? It's awful. It also technically invented boost gameplay with its bonus stages.

No. Vetoed. Sonic Heroes is easily the best 3D Sonic. Dont kid yourself.

And the very first time you play Jolly Roger Bay on a new save file, it's foggy and overcast, but grabbing the first star permanently clears the fog and sky, even if you go back and replay the first mission.

Ironically that also slightly increases game performance in that area. Jolly Roger Bay slows the N64 down to a crawl.

Ocarina of Time + Super Mario 64 + Mario Kart 64 - the credits music is timed with the N64's slowdown/performance issues. On emulators, the visuals outrun the music by 15-20 seconds (if not more).

I think we need to face the facts and develop society around declining populations. There is no actual way to get birth rates back up again. Everything attempted hasn't worked and going back to women being uneducated and at home pregnant all the time isn't desirable (okay maybe for those weird trad wife people). This is the new normal and society will have to accept it. It's bad for the economy based on the assumption of needing infinite growth and record profits every year. Things will need to be structured differently.

Wtf is up with this "make a family, be a real human, muh nuclear family values" coded statement? Really not liking the vibe of this.
Nobody is required to poop out 5 babies per family, it's not the 1800s anymore.

Better knowledge and access to contraception/best sexual practices is a good thing. We overpopulated due to the lack of that before.

I don't get it? It just looks like a really bland generic Metroidvania? Why is this game being put so high on a pedestal? Why are people losing their minds about what just looks like a small game? IMO it just looks like they took Metroid Dread and changed the art.

I do and don't like it and can't decide on what my thoughts are really.

I love that it's less gimmicky compared to later games, and feels very true to the Game Boy aesthetic. SML2 by comparison didn't age as well and its huge sprites and screen crunch make it very difficult to revisit. I never really liked the Wario Land games for similar reasons.

The game's physics are a bit rough and unforgiving at times, and items behave a little strangely like with super balls bouncing in a checkmark formation + mushrooms go through floors as opposed to sliding along them.

It's short, but as I get older I actually kind of like the shortness more and more. Makes it easy to pick up, finish, then put down.
