No. A state charge isn't going to the Supreme Court. It'll get appealed to the NY appellate level and then likely nothing happens.

After the verdict was read, Trump's lawyer made a motion for acquittal based on the theory/hallucination that Michael Cohen committed perjury in his testimony and the jury could not have convicted without said false testimony, is that a likely angle for an appeal?

In a sane world, no chance. The judge explicitly told the jury they could not convict on Cohen's testimony alone.

Here's a detail that slipped my notice until now.

https://www.texastribune.org/2024/05/28/texas-gop-convention-elections-religion-delegates-platform/

Delegates approved rules that ban Republican candidates as well as judges who are censured by the party from appearing on primary ballots for two years, a move that would give a small group of Republicans the ability to block people from running for office, should it survive expected legal challenges.

So not only are they blocking Democrats from every holding office again, they're also making it so they can disqualify the Republican candidates who don't pass their purity test. This is effectively the death of democracy in Texas, such that it was.

There's nothing stopping him from firing Jack Smith and having his sock puppet of an AG drop the federal charges. He can also pardon himself on the federal charges. The only case that might still have a chance if he wins is the Georgia case, and he'll certainly sue to challenge a state's authority to charge a president, and again to insist pardons supersede state charges.

Twelve months of mandatory national service would be reintroduced by the Conservatives if they win the general election.

Eighteen-year-olds would be able to apply for one of 30,000 full-time military placements or volunteering one weekend a month carrying out a community service.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he believed bringing back compulsory service across the UK would help foster the "national spirit" that emerged during the pandemic.

The armed forces placements would allow young people to learn about cyber security, logistics, procurement, or civil response operations.

Non-military volunteering would involve 25 days with organisations such as the fire service, the police and the NHS.

I'm not well versed in British politics, so I can't tell if this is a sincere attempt to fix one or more actual problems or if it's red meat for older people who are spiteful towards younger generations.
