Absolutely.

The gameplay can feel a little dated and thus the game can drag, but the story and atmosphere and the world in general are top notch, particularly if you follow the plot threads and play Control and then Alan Wake 2. I also personally think the sound design is stellar.

Biggest piece of advice if you do play it is to break it up into episodic chunks; the game ends each episode with credits and the next episode will start with "Previously on Alan Wake..." and a TV show style recap so breaking it up into those chunks works really, really well.

Okay, sincere question here. Was she ACTUALLY trans in the original Japanese Gamecube version's script? I've done as much research as I reasonably can, and I keep coming back to her being an otokonoko. Which can mean crossdresser or femboy. That is, someone who dresses or acts feminine, but identifies as male. Distinctly different from a trans woman.

If she was trans, then great. I'm happy that part of the translation is accurate and Nintendo isn't afraid to have a trans character in a major release. But if she wasn't, then I don't approve of them changing the script. There are tons of cases of censorship and pointless line changes in this remake already (why do they hate the word airhead so much?), so pardon me if I sound skeptical. Sure trans representation is cool, but it should be there from the start, not shoehorned in during localization (if that is in fact the case).

I just want the facts here. Whatever the original script was, I'm cool with it. And I do not like how the original English version scrubbed all references to it.

I don't know how it spun out into all of this but my original point is that Trump did not create or willingly post nazi propaganda. He's not secretly signalling to his boys in the back row. Some staffer of his saw the video someone else made and reposted it because it's pro-Trump. He's not paying attention, his staff isn't paying attention, no one is being held accountable for anything.

Which is why I asked if the other games were more accurate. Because if the AC games did put more attention to detail in the past than these complaints are valid. But if they always played fast and loose with accuracy than that's just AC.

Yes they've always played somewhat fast and loose with accuracy.

They tend to focus on getting the big landmarks and cityscapes correct more than interiors, so like the pyramids in Origins or Notre Dame in Unity are really well realized. I imagine for Shadows most of the major landmarks will be well done.
