From the bottom of page 1 in the pdf they cite as the source:
"Where the copyright holder makes available to his customer a copy – tangible or intangible – and at the same time concludes, in return form payment of a fee, a licence agreement granting the customer the right to use that copy for an unlimited period, that rightholder sells the copy to the customer and thus exhausts his exclusive distribution right. Such a transaction involves a transfer of the right of ownership of the copy. Therefore, even if the licence agreement prohibits a further transfer, the rightholder can no longer oppose the resale of that copy."
IANAL but it sounds like they could get around this by making the license only last for a limited period of time. It could be something large but finite like 500 years but I don't think there's any reason it can't be 5 years or 1 year.

Clearly what we need is a contest that is only user created characters, with strict guidelines on details and potential abilities
Random Spell Tournament sort of did this. Users signed up for the tournament and were given 3 randomly generated spells. After you win, you got to take a spell from your opponent. This is where the GANON1025 that was entered into MPFC came from. He wasn't supposed to be completely broken but somehow in MPFC his Elemental Sun of Nothing spell turned into a instacast undodgeble Balefire and things went downhill from there. <_<

I don't see why they would be against that if the alternative is no paid stage DLC at all. Maybe they think it's unfair that one person had to pay and the other freeloads but I think that's pretty unlikely.

The line the Tekken team has chosen regarding this is that stages, characters, and moves shouldn't be added as paid DLC.
I understand characters and moves but what's wrong with stages as DLC? I haven't played much Tekken. Are they more than just a background?

Board 8 kinda breaks the system a bit due to having such a high post to topic ratio. The expectations was probably a board with a large number of posts would be super active and needed to be purged more often. We have a huge number of posts due to all the long lived projects and discussion topics.
Asking to adjust the purge rate might be possible, but it's unlikely to get a very high priority since it affects only a small number of boards. I would guess that Board 8 and CE are probably the only two boards on the site that constantly hit the 20000 post requirement.

Purge rate is based on the total number of non archived posts. Board 8 has a lot more posts so the topics purge faster. Also social boards just aren't archived so we don't constantly grow in topic and post count like OT does. CE and the other social boards also aren't archived.

No. The right to play the game belongs to you. At any time Capcom could say "We don't want you playing anymore" and that's that.
I don't think they can do that. You paid for a licence to use the software. The game company can't just revoke that licence just because they feel like it. Of course there are tricks around this like tying the game to an online activation server that they can block access to. However, for games that are strictly offline, I don't think they can do anything.

You're accessing material you don't own and don't have permission to access. It's no more legal than if the DLC was off disc and you pirated it.,
If that was illegal, you wouldn't be able to make a backup of your game since that would require copying the DLC data as well.

Which by the way just so happens to be the way the government is trying to prevent megaupload from making its case. Literally are holding them from getting access and from paying the costs maintenance because they recently discovered there's child porn in the petabytes of data.
I believe it was actually because they said there might be child porn on a server not because they actually took the effort to find any.

There isn't really a difference on Capcom's side other than probably cheaper and faster distribution for on disc DLC. From our side, on-disc DLC suggests the possibility that the content was finished beforehand and withheld. On Capcom's side, they already know exactly when everything was finished regardless of where the content is. It's just more content tor them to sell.

I'm not sure exactly how well received by professional reviewers it was or how it sold but the game is supposed to at least okay which is way better than anyone ever though it would be.

This is definitely possible, and it goes to show you the problems with letting government involve themselves so much in education.
Sure, you can get a "free" computer, but now you don't have any freedoms when using that computer. Good trade, right?
Assuming they aren't forced to use the computer in some way, I don't see how that isn't a fair deal. If you don't like the terms of use for the rented computer you can opt not to use it.

When it comes to on-disc DLC...why wouldn't Capcom just release it with the already "finished" game. I mean, not releasing it with it means that they don't care about releasing the most stellar game they can. It's all about the money. Period.
With that said, I don't buy Capcom games so lol.
Nobody actually tries to put out the absolute best possible game possible. Nobody has the infinite budget required for such a thing. You can always add a new character into the game so you need to decided when enough is enough. DLC characters bring in extra money. On the expectations of this extra money, Capcom could hire more people to get the DLC characters done. Even if the characters are done in time for the standard release, Capcom still needs the money they would bring in a DLC so they remain DLC. Alternatively, they could just release them as non DLC and learn not to make DLC characters in the future since they can't sell them for extra money. This doesn't mean planned DLC characters would suddenly come with the game but means they don't have those characters at all. This is all based on the ideal scenario. It's also possible that Capcom chops off non-DLC characters and sells them as DLC for more money and the extra money does not generate any new content at all.

Yeah that ties in with what I was saying. Every year it seems like we have one total outlier going into the Top Ten, and that's probably because said outlier does really well in Boot/Immune. Hear that, TRE?
Heh. At this point every inch forward is a new personal best so I'm taking this one day at a time. I might consider advancement a possibility if I can survive a day or two and it looks like the format is favourable to me.

I already signed up. I hope to do well but I'm mostly playing for fun since disconnectors will just frustrate me to no end if try to be serious about my score.
A good rain team is plenty usable in doubles. I find that a lot of teams aren't as prepared for Rain as they really should be. Also, most people you will be facing won't be very good and won't have answers to Rain at all.

Don't know if it's common, but I have heard of bonuses for great review scores. I have not heard of only getting payment upon great review scores, what the hell.
It was a bonus in this case as well. They did get a normal payment.

Why does either side want to tie something like this to review scores and not something like sales? It would prevent something like handing out a bonus for a game that bombs saleswise despite high reviews as well as not handing out a bonus in the reverse scenario.

Ruben, the player who was disqualified, ended up getting an indefinite ban due to this incident. It's seems unlikely he'll get to play this year and his status for future years is unknown. It's sucks that he won't get to participate considering he's one of the top players in the world
