Just watched the first episode of Gundam Wing for the first time since it first ran on Toonami. I remember next to nothing about the show, other than the finale basically being Char's Counterattack, so this is basically a blind watch for me. I suppose I also remember some minor plotpoints as well: Zechs and Relena are bro and sis, Quattro is gay for Trowa, stuff like that.
Heero... What the hell is his problem. He laughs hysterically as he slaughters people and treats people like ****. Way more of a sociopath than I remember.

One Final Note: One of the ideas the show hints at but doesn't develop is the idea that the government from Jupiter is using Zanscare as tool for taking over the earth. They built the Angel Halo, and Fonse Katagie, a representative from Jupiter, apparently established Maria as a figurehead. It would have been neat to see more of Jupiter in the show. In fact, I demand a UC show that takes place at Jupiter. They seem to be influential, with Jupiter Energy Fleet and all. In fact, come to think of it, wasn't Scirocco also from Jupiter? What is with Jupiterites supporting authoritarian dictators?
0080 > 0079 > Zeta > Victory> 0083 > ZZ > Char's Counterattack > F91> 08th MS Team > G
Too Long Didn't Read Version: Victory Gundam is a series that isn't as dark as people say, but is still meaningful. I rather liked the cast, and the soundtrack was phenomenal. There are some weird bits here and there, but overall was really good.
I guess that's it for the UC serieses, at least until the next episode of Unicorn (can't wait!). On to some more AU. Wing is next.

That was a great show. Absolutely fantastic. I wasn't too impressed initially. I thought the first few episodes were confusing and slow. But around the time they were trying to escape to space, I was enthralled.
One thing I had heard going in was that it was the most depressing/grimmest series. Not really. I mean, yeah there was a lot of character deaths, but in terms of tone, I'd say it was closer to ZZ than Z. In fact, it reminded me a lot of ZZ. Lots of slapstick humor, primarily young cast. Furthermore, there was a lot of "cuteness' throughout. Hell, two of the main mascots are Flanders and Karlmann (who was adorable, especially towards the end). Speaking of Flanders, what happened to him? He kind of disappeared towards the end.
Uso Ewing: Great protagonist, and if I'm not mistaken, the youngest so far. I don't think he was an especially good pilot, or even a particularly powerful newtype, but he was creative and competent.
Shakti: I liked her a lot. She did some dumb stuff from time to time, which resulted in Uso and friends having to rescue her several times
Odelo: Why did you have to die? He was a great sidekick. Poor Elischa :(
Warren: Pretty sure he's never getting with Martina. Poor guy
Cronicle: At first I didn't care for him, but I came to like him. That said, I don't think his rivalry with Uso was altogether that interesting. At least, it wasn't as well developed as (for example, Char x Amuro(perhaps this is unfair, since their rivalry is LEGENDARY), Kamille x Jerid, or Kou x Gato. Still, I think he was a good guy who, like his sister, were being used. A shame. I think he could have done a lot of good with his life. His death was pretty sad.
Overall, I loved the art style and tone. It had a very strange surreal vibe. Almost like a fantasy series or something. This is probably helped by the fact that the soundtrack was so wonderful.
The final battle was intense. There were a few questions I had: Before the Jeanne D'arc was sunk, Uso's dad was shown to have evacuated. The general was like, "The rumors are true... He's a sharp man. I wonder what he is planning." But then he's never seen again. His "ghost" is seen when the Jeanne D'arc crashes into Sugan's flagship later, implying that he died when the ship was shot up earlier. What is up with that. Come to think of it, I think Uso is the only protagonist so far who's parents were happily married. Yeah, they were divided due to their duties with regards to the war, but it is implied they were very much in love.
There were some things I had a problem with, I won't lie: First off, I didn't really care much for the mech designs. Well, at least the Zanscare designs. Zolos and Zoloats were alright. But why did everything have tires? It was weird. Even the battleships had tires (As Uso's mother found out!)
I think they kind of flubbed Fuala. She wasn't bad at the beginning, but when she returned, it was kind annoying. Her personality flip was even more extreme than poor Mashymre's.
The bikini women thing in episode 49 or so was pretty weird too. But kind of cool. Was totally ineffective.
One thing I did like was Katejina's character. Her fall was I thought pretty reasonably done. Yeah, she goes bat++++ insane at the end, but her transition throughout was pretty well done, as she goes from being staunchly League Militaire, to being sympathetic to Cronicle, to being a zealot. Her fate was pretty poetic.

God damn is the 08th a well equipped unit! They're fielding Gundams while the rest of the Federation is fielding GMs and Balls >_>. I was under the impression the RX-78 was never mass produced. Guess I was wrong!
Starting 08th MS Team. I watched this years ago and remember liking it alot. Let's see if my more mature opinions hold up!
OP is pretty good!
Wasn't expecting to see a Ball! Haven't seen one of those guys since the original series. I always thought they were kind of herpaderpy, but Shiro owned the hell out of that Zaku!
One thing I didn't quite buy was how quickly Shiro and Aina became friendly. I could understand them working together, but they became like lovey-dovey instantly. I guess its not a big deal though.
That kid who was writing letters. He's kind of annoying. But I guess that's his role in the story.
Oh, and one thing I didn't catch back in the day was Gihren's speech. And the operation the soldiers were refering to was probably Odessa!
Yeah that Antarctic Treaty was pissed on all over the movie. I'm not sure if building Unit 2 was a violation of the treaty or not (since it doesn't HAVE to be nuclear armed), but what the Delaz Fleet did sure was. Technically the violated it TWICE.
Wow, this was completely on the opposite spectrum of 0080. That show was a smaller, intimate personal story. This was on the scale of a normal Gundam series. If I have a complaint, it is that I wanted more of some of the side characters. This show had a pretty large cast and not a whole lot of time to develop them. Characters like Monsha disappear pretty much around episode 7. It's a shame because they were pretty neat, from what I did see of them.
The first half was pretty good, but damn was that second half intense. Nuking an entire fleet AND dropping a colony. Pretty busy show.
There was a lot of neat plot elements. So it was Operation Stardust that led to the creation of the Titans huh. Didn't expect to see more douchery from Bask Ohm or Jamitov. Remarkably, this show made me hate them even more! But I'm happy I know they both die like *****es in Zeta. Oh, and btw. Why I am not surprised that Monsha and his friends became Titans at the end? Hopefully Monsha got slaughtered when the AUEG fired the colony laser at the Titans fleet. I didn't like him much.
Kou was a pretty cool antagonist. Not entirely sure of his abilities as a pilot, but he was an interesting enough fellow and I certainly felt for him, especially when Nina turned on him in the final episode. If I had to rank the main characters in terms of piloting skills, it'd be something like
Amuro > > Kamille = Judau (not entirely sure who the better pilot is, though Kamille is definitely the stronger Newtype) > Kou > > > > > > > > > > > Bernie (sorry Bernie >_>). But yeah, Kou was a pretty cool guy. Sucks he kind of got screwed, but all's well that ends well, right?
Gato. What a bad ass. I liked him a lot. The Nightmare of Solomon indeed! Pretty much went around bossing this whole show. His final charge to get to the Axis fleet was incredible and for me, one of the most iconic moments in the franchise so far. Delaz was pretty neat too, and I appreciated the fact that he died pretty much the same way Gihren Zabi, his idol died. Betrayed by one of his closest people and shot in the head. Cima was a ***** and I'm happy she died like one. She single-handledly derailed Operation Stardust.
Another thing I want to comment on was the artwork. It was effing amazing. Never before has a Zaku II or Rick Dom looked so incredible. The character designs themselves were pretty good, but jeez was the mech artwork beautiful.
And finally. The music. Most of the BGM stuff was alright. I...actually don't recall much music to be honest, except for this one military song that plays a few times, and this loud DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUN type song that plays at a cliffhanger. But the theme music was amazing. Men of Destiny and The Winner were fantastic and sure did get me pumped up for each episode. Good work to the people who made those songs.
Overall, it was a pretty interesting show. The first half kind of bogged things down a bit, but that second half was some really intense viewing.
8 episodes into ZZ and I'm kind of liking it. Is it more humorous than pretty much every Gundam series? Yes. But the battles at least are played straight with real consequences (read: death) I rather like Mashymre's second in command, Gotton.
Judau so far is pretty cool. He's definitely likeable, though I hestitate to say he's as good as Kamille and Amuro (though that's not exactly fair, since they were pretty strong protagonists)
Pretty_Odd posted... Speaking of PC, can specs degrade? My dad's computer was awesome when we bought it. It could supposedly run Crysis at recommend specs. Now it can't run anything. I tried playing Oblivion on there the other day. The thing just kept chugging along, like every 2 seconds it would freeze for a moment.
I went all the way down to Very Low so everything looked like ass, but the thing was still chugging. How could it have gotten so bad?
A number of reasons:
1 - Viruses and spyware are bogging down your CPU 2 - Too many useless programs are set to run at start up, bogging down your CPU 3 - Corrupted RAM etc
Nope, its never getting higher pitched. It resetting is probably just your brain not being able to adjust to the pattern anymore and rebooting the sound or something
NeoElfboy posted... 7. Sephiroth. Awesome troll. His lines after killing Aeris are wonderful. "Don't try to pretend you have emotions!" And the Whirlwind Maze stuff.
That was really Jenova that said that and killed Aeris
I love the original series so much because it's like this
Zeon Soldier: The new federation mobile suit! I'll prove that its just a hunk of garbage! Amuro: I can pilot the Gundam better than anyone! Zeon Soldier: What! This can't be happening! How can a mobile suit be this powerful! Zeon soldier dies horrifically
Not refering to Sluggar's death. That is w/es. I'm refering to Dozle Zabi, the ****** ****er with balls who gets out of his Mobile Armor to engage a huge 50 foot tall Mobile Suit with a machine gun
To be fair though, there are tons of people that you think are well adjusted, so you add them to keep in contact, but it turns out that they suck at Facebook.
UltimaterializerX posted... Aquariums and zoos are in the exact same category, stop being awful.
Sea World isn't an aquarium either. Zoos and Aquariums pretty much attempt to emulate the environment that the animals would naturally inhabit. They also provide information for vistors.
Sea World has basic information, but pretty much forces the animals to do tricks and what not, which is what they normally wouldn't do. It's documented to be highly stressful on the animals and bad for their health.
UltimaterializerX posted... From: thundersheep | #003 Didn't really read the link, but Orcas are smart as **** and it's ****ed up that they're held in captivity. I think the same for pretty much all animals though. I can't stand the idea of zoos and aquariums. Zoos are good as preservations for endangered species, research and not much else. Nothing wrong with this lawsuit at all.
