My old roommate just came over and brought me a Federer shirt. :D

I made sure that some people I knew got me a shirt and hat when they went to Switzerland a few years ago. Its says Fifteen on the back - blame Roger for that.

I think I have posted this before:

Federer hat signed by Soderling and Nadal ironically. AO 2011.

Well he's 1-1 vs Nadal this year (had to beat him to win Indian Wells) and 2-1 vs Djokovic (1-1 in slams) so its not like he did a Davydenko and got all his points in the post US Open window.

Although I see what you mean - Djokovic and Nadal have been in better overall form whereas Federer has been a lot more vulnerable. But I guess if you keep putting yourself in these type of positions something will go your way eventually.

This could very well be redundant come Sunday. Murray's new attitude could be the difference. At least if he wins then it will be good for men's tennis in general.

Then Delpo and Soderling hit top form again. Suddenly we have a solid top 10.

I'm a Federer fan but I can only see Djok rolling through in 3 (maybe 4 if Fed decides to keep the ball in the court). Usual story of too many errors.

Djok > Murray in 3 (AO 2011 repeat)

Djok > Tsonga in 4 (AO 2008 repeat)

Resumption of Nadal Djok finals with Nadal getting to No.1 again.

I'm going to go cry in my corner now.

I don't think I've ever cried because of a video game. The closest I think I ever came was FFX. The ending still gives me chills to this day whenever I watch it, and I've seen it who knows how many times.

But I've noticed I've gotten more emotional as I've gotten older, so maybe replaying some of these games I played when I was younger could evoke a more emotional reaction now.

Yeah FFX was pretty good too, although it was a different kind of sad.

About the blubbering - At first I was like, "wow why is this happening? Good thing I'm playing alone." But I agree that it happens more now that I'm older, same with movies.

I'm excluding limited roles in Dissidia and CC and all that.

I thought that over the years they would have declined massively. I know Crono has but still, fairly impressive when you go up against the longest running/more expansive franchises in Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Pokemon.

Just a bit more of a positive spin on things.

However the best thing to happen would be for Snake to surpass Cloud and then somehow rally the world to beat Link.

I think the Uncharted series is good for this. They aren't hard in the sense of 'challenging' only in terms of cheap deaths through platforming or cheap gun fights.

Game overs mean nothing when you might restart a checkpoint 3 or 4 times in a row because of a failed jump.

Something like MGS can be challenging because even though you might escape and not have many game overs, the difficulty lies in the stealth action and executing sections well.

When it comes to horror I enjoy the psychological aspect of the Silent Hill series. I enjoyed Silent Hill 1 in this way even if it wasn't focused so much on psychology as Silent Hill 2 was.

Silent Hill 2 has some really enjoyable parts in terms of music, the creepy radio show, and especially Pyramid Head's implementation. However its the repetitive doors/locks that really drag it down. Silent Hill 1 was good at keeping the environments varied.

Silent Hill 1also had a sense of danger all the time. Not just because there were monsters who were faster than you, but also because of the other world shift etc. Silent Hill 2 only had a sense that that the town itself was out for you, but it was never threatening enough. Silent Hill 1 had that as well as the physical threats too.

I played this earlier in the year and was ultimately pretty disappointed with it. The gameplay was poor, spending most of your time checking for keys for various doors and locks, while the controls where ugh.

The monsters were also pitiful, there was never any real sense of danger. Instead of feeling scared-alone it was lame-there-is-nothing-here-alone. However I enjoyed the music and atmosphere.

Maria has to be the most annoying character though. I seriously picked up on what she was well before James ever did. That's why I got the 'Leave' ending anyway.

Some people say you can gain a better appreciation for the game once you play it a second time. I want to do it on the hardest settings too but apparently the riddles are ridiculous.

Anyone else suddenly become enlightened later?

The controls are bad and there were were so many locked doors.

Go I hated Silent Hill 2 for that. I tried so hard to enjoy it but 1. The enemies were useless and not threatening at all. 2. The gameplay was literally running around unlocking doors for hours on end - yes I'm looking at those damn apartments. Too many things to list.

I played Silent Hill 1 first and thought it was ok, it has good atmosphere and threatening enemies but terrible graphics and controls.

So I thought SH2 would be the best...really not very good. Pyramid Head's treatment was fantastic though - just turning up when you least expect it without fanfare. Other characters were terrible.

I think it suffers from the same problem Ass Creed and Uncharted do, in that they are looked down on because a related game trumps it so thoroughly.

I played Uncharted 1 without intending to really play 2 and felt exactly as I said earlier. Only later when I finally got around to 2 did I start to enjoy the series more. So my opinion hasn't changed. Still a 7/10 game then and now.

The controls for UC2 are superb, they are what I classify as standard shooter controls, that why ME2 seems clunky to me. If UC2 did anything exceptionally its the cover based movement. Very fluid.

One reason I probably look down on Uncharted 1 is because I played it during a stretch of goods games - MGS3, 4, Resident Evil 4, Chrono Trigger, ME2, Heavy Rain, Metroid Prime and obviously Uncharted 2 later.

I love Uncharted 1. It has some problems, for sure, but it's certainly not "average." Everything that's good about Uncharted is still present, just not as refined.

The major thing is poor gameplay balance - some early puzzles then virtually none for the rest of the game. None of which require much thought.

Then there's chapters like 4 which are purely shooting fields literally full of waist high cover and bullet absorbing enemies. Hated that part on crushing. Uncharted 2 improved on this so much.

Add in the fact that there are many areas in which Drake finds a secret entrance or whatever yet the super secret area down below is full of enemies. Also the water room where they literally come out of the walls... really? ND were trying to add in combat in place of what should have been puzzles etc. There is no major integration between them.

Then there's the corny characterisation where you virtually know what they are going to say (Sully's cigar/women). Everyone is a stereotype.

The jetski levels were fun but were obviously not made for the higher difficulties, I spent ages fighting against the rapids and slowly picking off the enemies one by one (the same as most most youtube methods).

So no, Uncharted 1 is nothing special at all. It has great scenery and some good environments but its simply a B tier game. The good thing is that it laid the foundations for the improved UC2.

Or there's the part where you have blades crisscrossing the room and you have to pull two switches then jump through a door, and it requires not just a perfect run but luck in having the blades moving with the right timing.

This part is fairly easy. Just jump over them. I have never heard of anyone having trouble here.

Or there's the section where you have to fight a bunch of enemies before the floor drops out from under you, but they add in a bunch of enemies you've never encountered before with shields that can only be broken with a specific attack, whom are never seen again, and you're never given any hint as to how to break the shield.

Those are just shielded enemies - same as the ones you fight in Athens. You learn that plume destroys the shield. So really you should just pay attention. All the enemies there are seen throughout the game.

MGS2 was being finalised around September 2001. Some of the ending scene was cut out because of the parallels between *spoilers* Arsenal Gear hitting the city and the Twin Towers.

Both occured in NYC/Lower New York harbour. Both involved terrorism. It is a perfect day on the Big Shell like it was on 9/11. Both events begin early in the morning. Even the final scene with the American flag fluttering in the wind captures the moment.

The fact that the whole game revolves around liberty, freedom and general American traits always reminds me about that day. Even though I live on the other side of the world.

Snake's final speech on passing the torch, generations and life is extremely fitting.
