Fox is making plans for a new Fantastic Four movie soon, with the director of Chronicle in charge, IIRC.

And I'm pretty sure it was reported that the guy in the suit is Eric Savin, AKA Coldblood. So it's just a design inspired by Iron Patriot (or Detroit Steel). He probably won't even be called anything besides Eric Savin; maybe Coldblood.

Oh, and here's one even icon wouldn't recommend...

Vurt - Jeff Noon

Takes place in a run-down s***-hole future Manchester where anything can breed with anything and junkies get high on shared-hallucination feather-drugs called vurt. The main character is in love with his sister, and is on a quest to bring her back after she got lost in the vurt and her place in reality was taken by an amorphous blob of drug-flesh called the Thing from Outer Space. It's ... it's a weird book.

It's technically also the first in a series, though they're loosely connected. The sequel, Pollen, is about a lethal hayfever epidemic and the goddess Persephone; the prequel, Nymphomation, involves lotteries and the discovery of magic lube and math having sex. There's also a tangentially related fourth book that also serves as a third Alice (as in, in Wonderland) book, Automated Alice.

City of Saints and Madmen - Jeff VanderMeer

The first in a loose trilogy of books about a (violent, fungus-encrusted) fictional city called Ambergris. This, the first book, is a collection of novellas and short stories in various forms (some are more traditional, but one story is an in-universe historical pamphlet with snarky footnotes; another is a lengthy bibliography with annotations that gradually reveal their author's backstory) that show Ambergris through several lenses and at several points in history. It is excellent, as are its sequels, Shriek (a manuscript written by a character from CoSaM and interrupted by comments from another) and Finch (a detective novel set in the conquered city's future).

F*** f*** f***. I've had a lot of setbacks - computer crashed and I lost half a story, illness, family s*** - and I haven't been able to complete either of the stories I've started. If the deadline is extended again, I can guarantee one, maybe two, but I won't have time to finish today.

I'm sorry, Chris. Don't smite me. :(

Psh, 15 days ain't a short amount of time!

Says a man who didn't finish any of the stories he started...

But hey, the deadline extension is a traditional part of the Board 8 writing groups! There were probably more weeks that had extended deadlines than weeks that didn't, honestly.

Critiques have always been rare in these contests, even among people who actually participate (I say "even," but authors have been the only ones to ever critique, really). Most people lack the confidence to do it, or don't want to offend anybody, or are lazy, or forget, or whatever.

Take me, for instance. Lazy!

I might try to write something later though.

Well, my personal favorite comedic (or at least semi-comedic) movies on Netflix are probably Mystery Team (think the Hardy Boys in the modern world), Wristcutters (dark comedy in a limbo for suicides), The Producers (the original, of course), Murder by Death (parody of various fictional detectives with an excellent British cast, Peter Falk!!, and Truman Capote for some reason), and... well, I'm not sure I'd really classify Repo Man as a comedy, but I think that's what it's filed under. It's about repo men and a car trunk that vaporizes people and vague references to Scientology. I like it; plenty of people don't.

For horror on the lighter side, Dead Snow is a fun goofy gory Norwegian Nazi zombie movie, Trick 'r Treat is a relatively light-hearted horror anthology that tells several criss-crossing stories on Halloween night, and Behind the Mask is a slasher flick homage presented as a mockumentary, with a student film crew following around a budding serial killer. On the more serious side of horror I'd recommend Let the Right One In, The Thing, and the original Night of the Living Dead.

Most of the other movies I'd recommend off the top of my head are also pretty serious. 13 Assassins (an excellent samurai action flick), Winter's Bone (extremely tough young woman tries to find her missing father in the Ozarks), Lady Vengeance (about a lady, and lots of vengeance; not quite as good as the fantastic Oldboy but pretty close), Buried (Ryan Reynolds in a box for an hour and a half), Brick (excellent film noir set in a high school), The Wild Hunt (the darkest movie ever made about LARPing), Dead Man (surreal "acid western" starring Johnny Depp as a slowly dying accountant)... some of those weren't the best descriptions but whatever.

As far as TV goes, there's loads of good comedies on Netflix. Archer, Parks and Recreation, Arrested Development, Better Off Ted, Psych, plus tons of British stuff: Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, Spaced, Father Ted, Red Dwarf, That Mitchell and Webb Look, The IT Crowd, etc.

And if you just want to watch beautiful footage of insects doing insect things for an hour with very occasional voice-overs and music, check out Microcosmos.
