My brother and raced through B-K the other day, N64 vs. 360.
Because of the differences in the versions, we had to treat death as an auto-lose. 4 hours and the game ended when he died in Click Clock Wood. Yeah, I'm not saying you can't judge a game based on whatever criteria you want.
But I guess it's like the whole Melee and Brawl thing. Depending on why you like a game will direct how well you take it's changes. To me, FFX had the perfect ending. It's like reading the end of a good book, then a while later it gets a highly unnecessary follow-up that s***s all over that perfect ending. I mean, this is definitely true, but a game has different responsibilities than other mediums. I think it did very interesting things with the genre, even with the ineffective sequel story to FFX. Would it have been better if the story was based on new material? Definitely. But then again they probably really wanted to save development time and cost by reusing the engine.
