theres a list of the playable characters (barring some special characters like the necromancer)
so, I'll say (As of now), one character per user, until it runs out of steam, then I'll let people double up.
list away! oh, and if you nominate one of the recruits, tell me which promotion path I should take with them. Actually, do this for any unit that can promote into multiple things
Okay, so, I've been dying to play a Fire Emblem game, but I've played the good ones a bunch already. So, to keep things interesting, I've decided to let the good folks here decide which game I'll play, and what my team will be!
The choices for game are 6, 7 or 8 (I have 9 too, but I just recently played that).
First to 3 votes decides the game! then, after that, you guys can start naming characters to use in my team. I'm not entirely sure how I'll do this, if enough people are posting it could be another first to whatever thing, otherwise I may just say each poster chooses one character. I think a decent number is like, 11 characters as a team? Maybe one of the FE experts can help me here. But, depending on the game, there will be 1-3 characters I'm forced to use, so that limits the suggestions.
I'll make this topic as much of a playthrough topic as I can be arsed to (which should be pretty easy for fire emblem).

... Er... that's not a drug-dealer.
And as other people have said, plenty of things happened in the first half of season one. Unless you are using "nothing happened" as interchangeable with "I wasn't interested with what was happening," I don't know how you could make that argument unless you weren't paying attention or didn't understand what was going on.
i'm pretty sure i've been saying "nothing interesting happens"
Not Dave posted... "i would rather argue about how bad a show is for hours rather than actually give it a chance when 50+ people are telling me it only gets better"
yep. it was a great way to spend the time while i obtained better shows to watch
just wanted to let you know I completely agree with you. I watched the first 6 episodes of the show and was completely bored the entire time, and since then I've never tried again. I love slow-paced shows, and I love character development, but there wasn't a single character that I even remotely cared about, nor any scenes that I ever found interesting.
and this is coming from someone who watches tons and tons of tv, I've watched dozens of complete series in the past few years, I've never seen a show that I didn't at least find somewhat likeable, and I've never watched any other show that I found so completely mundane that I was unable to continue watching it.
and to this day I still can't imagine any other show being as bad as those first 6 episodes of the wire. I get that the argument is that the show is technically well-made, and its realistic, and well-written. but it seems to me like they focused so much on the atmosphere and the details that they forgot to ever make you actually CARE about what you're watching.
so, yeah. everyone else in this topic is wrong. or maybe the show really does get better once you know the chars and are more used to the show. maybe one day I'll sit through the first 12 hours so that I can finally get to something that I might appreciate. I just don't see why I'd ever have the motivation

This proves that you weren't really following it well since Omar is not a dealer. He rips the dealers off and gives away the goods. Like Robin Hood.

thanks for misquoting me, though!
though, on second thought, it may have been more interesting to let people believe I actually like the show
VincentLauw posted... From: pxlated | #082 but I still firmly believe that the "pulling together of all the little details" does not excuse nothing very interesting happening halfway into the season If you mean with interesting some kind of stunning revelation or action scene, then yeah, no. But I'd say there's lots of interesting stuff going on in the first half of season one. Which is very much so the worst part of the show (only gets better from there), but still really enjoyable for me. As I said, I don't see why anyone would continue watching if they don't like that (I agree with you on that), but maybe that's just me.
are you not reading my posts or something? I'm all about small details and character development and that crap. but literally the only interesting thing that happened in the hours I watched was the fact that the black drug dealer was gay.
FreakinLincoln posted... Yeah, the UK Skins is great. I liked the first two seasons well enough, the third was pretty crap, the fourth got ****ing amazing toward the end, and the fifth is my favorite by far.
The US Skins is awful and I'm glad it got cancelled, but the UK version is great.
hell yeah season 5 love. it's definitely my favorite too
VincentLauw posted... And I really hate it when people call The Wire slowpaced
it is not. They just delve deeper into the details than any other show I've seen. They don't tend to focus on action too much. If you call that slow paced, then sure. But there's lots more going on in one season of the wire than there is in multiple seasons of other shows. Which is why the show tends to be so satisfying when you (or someone like McNulty) connect all the dots
This is a fairly valid point. I dont consider it slow paced because there's no action, though.
but I still firmly believe that the "pulling together of all the little details" does not excuse nothing very interesting happening halfway into the season
Mega Mana posted... The more you post, the more I think you've already watched the full first season and are just being lulzy.
why so?
I haven't. Sure, I'm playing it up a bit but I really believe it's not a good show.
and, Sbell, as far as TV shows I think are better than the wire:
Mad Men Breaking Bad Party Down Archer Parks N Rec certain seasons of Skins Fawlty Towers Wilfred (AU) Twin Peaks Misfits Louie BSG (excluding season 4, again) Cowboy Bebop Californication (yep) Veronica Mars
and lost more I can't remember right now!
(pretty much every show I've watched all the way through. though I never actually finished BSG because it got so terrible at the end)

Wire Season 4 > 3 > 1 > 2 > 5
yep.
I'll probably try watching season 4 at some point. but as I've said before, I have no problem with there being episodes which not much happens except character/relationship development or whatever.
but when nothing happens in 6 hour long episodes, that I have a problem with
FreakinLincoln posted... What could be wrong with it? It allows for a much deeper, intricate, and satisfying show than any of the more episodic shows where each episode has to end on a cliff-hanger to keep audiences tuning in. I love Mad Men but it has nothing on The Wire.
Also Party Down is great but it's not even in the top 100 shows of all time, much less the top 3.
never said it was top 3 (though it's probably close on my list). I just have a huge man-crush on adam scott.
and no matter how many times I watch it, it makes me laugh harder than any other show (Except maybe archer. I have a very difficult time deciding which show I think is funnier)
SBell0105 posted... pxlated, I'm not going to attack you for not liking the Wire, I gave up first season when it originally aired and then gave it another try years later. Now its in my Top 5 shows of all time.
What are your Top 5?
man I dont even remember all the shows I've watched. to be honest, I love most shows that I watch! (I should make a list of everything I've watched sometime...)
the fact that I am very easily pleased by television is a testament to how bad the wire is
and I dont expect something to happen every episode in a drama. but I certainly expect something interesting to happen in the first 6 hours. and the wire failed to do that.
BoshStrikesBack posted... I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume this isn't a troll topic.
You talk about how it's like "reading half a book and then finishing it until the end"; except that it's not. You watched six episodes of a season that, while excellent in its own right, is in many respects mere exposition to the excellence of later seasons. Here are some trends in the show, however, that never change:
-a slow, methodical pace -driven by character drama over plot drama -lots and lots of characters and relationships to remember
If these things prevent you from enjoying what is universally regarded (even in this topic, except for yourself!) as an amazing piece of television, then I suppose it's your right not to continue.
I'd also recommend looking into Michael Bay's Complete Works.
I love character drama/relationships. I just dont think 13 hour long episodes of "exposition" is "BEST TV SHOW EVER" worthy. in fact, I'd go as far as to say it makes it one of the worst.

except a game of thrones isn't crap for the first half

Parks and Rec got good? News to me.
parks n rec is in the running for the funniest show on TV
"yeah I'm reading this book, I'm about halfway through and it's all been crap so far but I'm going to keep reading because I CANT JUDGE IT TIL THE END"
it blows my mind that people are willing to sit through 6+ hours of something that's not that good just to get to where it "starts getting good"
going back to the parks n rec example, it at least had interesting characters and glimmers of excellence in it's first 3 hours of fumbling around trying to find itself.
the wire is just hour after hour of boring. you guys say "I didn't give it enough of a chance" and I say the creators aren't doing their job right.

Seinfeld, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Parks & Recreation. They were all average or worse in their first tenth, yet they're very celebrated because of the other 9/10 that aired.

I watched almost 6 hours of the wire and literally didnt enjoy any of it
BoshStrikesBack posted... and before you ask DID YOU WATCH AT LEAST HALF A SEASON YOU HAVE TO WATCH HALF THE FIRST SEASON BEFORE YOU REALLY GET IT
This might be a decent rule of thumb for most shows, but for The Wire, I'd say you need to finish at least the entire first season.
But look, you can't expect everyone to love something; I'm sure there are people out there who believe Shakespeare is a hack playwright, for example. Just a shame you can't enjoy what's inarguably (Breaking Bad aside) the best TV show ever produced.
it is most definitely not the best TV show ever. and it really amazes me that so many people think this way. my opinions on it aside, it's really silly to call it the BEST EVER
well, okay, it doesn't blow, but it's certainly not BEST TV SHOW EVER like people love to shout about.
the pacing is inexcusably slow the premise isn't particularly exciting, and while the scripts were pretty good the acting wasn't anything to write home about.
and before you ask DID YOU WATCH AT LEAST HALF A SEASON YOU HAVE TO WATCH HALF THE FIRST SEASON BEFORE YOU REALLY GET IT
yes, I watched half the first season. and it was boring the whole time! my rule of thumb is, if you haven't hooked me by the third episode, you're not doing it right.
