Unplayable. Crashing like crazy for people on Switch 2, sometimes not even making it to the title screen before crashing. It works fine on Switch 1, and all other Switch 1 Pokemon games seem to still work fine on Switch 2. It's only specifically BD/SP on the Switch 2 that's having problems.

All right, I decided on a playthrough: I'm gonna beat Pokemon X with only bugs. Started with Froakie just to use as an HM mule later, caught a Weedle and a Scatterbug on route 2, added a Caterpie in the forest, and I'm off to the races. I'll probably do my 2nd playthrough of Z-A after I finish this.

I'm already almost done with this playthrough. I just got the 8th and final badge, and my team consists of Crustle, Masquerain, Flygon, Drapion, Durant, and I can't believe I'm about to say this... Illumise. I never expected this silly little firefly that I originally caught as a team filler after the 1st badge to become the unexpected MVP of my playthrough. There were so many battles that I won because Illumise crippled an opponent's strong Pokemon with paralysis from Thunder Wave and/or attack drops from Charm or Struggle Bug, giving one of my other bugs a chance to switch in safely and set up. Plus, I was under the extra restriction of not using items in battle, so she was also a cleric in major battles with Wish. Needless to say, I have a new appreciation for Illumise after this.

Have you guys ever had a Pokemon you didn't like/appreciate before become an unexpectedly good part of a playthrough like I just did with Illumise? If so, which Pokemon was it, and in which game?

Yeah, seeing him livestream randomly on his first day back while checking Youtube for other content was crazy. Not sure if I did a triple or quadruple take.

Slight correction though, he returned September last year. Kind of just chilled with a SV randomizer until this game dropped.

True, I forgot that he did some random livestreams before he uploaded his first proper video back. Now that I think back, I found out about his return by noticing one of those livestreams too. I don't think it was his very first one that I noticed though.

On a side note, can I quickly talk about how happy I am to see PokeTips Mike back making videos again? He was one of my favorite Pokemon-focused YouTubers for a while, then the dude just totally vanished shortly after BD/SP came out. Despite being gone and off the grid for over 3 years, he actually gained subscribers and even hit 1 million in that time away because his videos were so good and informative. Then he randomly came back to YouTube earlier this year and seems happier than ever, and I'm happy for him too.

Do we know how many Pokemon in total are being added in the dlc? Not just the Megas, but all of them?

*obviously massive DLC spoilers below if these leaks turn out to be true*

If I counted correctly, it comes out to 131 unique species plus 9 regional forms returning. No new Pokemon species are debuting in the DLC. As for megas, it looks like 18 Pokemon are getting new megas (apparently 3 of them are Pokemon that already have a mega getting a second one) and all of the existing megas that weren't in the base game of Z-A already are coming back, including Primal Groudon/Kyogre who are basically just megas under a different name. Neither, to be honest. Once I got 2-3 outfits I liked, I didn't buy any more clothes, and once I hit the point where buying more mega stones wouldn't actually get me closer to unlocking the shiny charm, I didn't buy any more mega stones. I used my excess money for Pokeballs, healing items, and vitamins.

I mean you need the mega stones to finish the research missions so I went with those first and still need a few more

You don't need all of them. I only had 50 mega stones out of the 60-something total and I still got the shiny charm. There's 1900 extra points you get from research tasks that you don't actually need to get the charm, so you can still get it while leaving a few tasks undone.

I also have Wixoss on my list for some point in the future.

Make sure you start with the right entry, because the franchise's naming can be a bit confusing. The order goes:

Selector Infected > Selector Spread > Lostorage Incited > Lostorage Conflated

However, the 2 Selector seasons alone tell a fairly complete story (and the Lostorage seasons are generally considered to be worse, even if I think they're still good) so you could also stop after those first 2 and not bother with the Lostorage seasons if you want. Don't bother with the Selector Destructed movie (it's a very rushed recap) or the Diva spin-off (it sucks) either way.

It's kind of fascinating how thin the line is between Hatsune Miku existing and having a massive fan base and a Spotify channel playing AI music that has people screaming for its global banning.

The main difference is that the human whose voice was used to create the Vocaloid voice bank was actually fairly compensated for their voice being used that way. AI music just steals voices with no permission or compensation. And that's not getting into how much manual human work goes into tweaking the Vocaloid voices to sound right for the song, while AI songs tend to just roll with what gets generated.

I saw some Branded Dracotail lists in the top cut that were running Spirit With Eyes of Blue to Dragon-lock opponents by giving it to them with Sanctifire, which kills every other deck in the format besides a Dracotail mirror. I don't know how many times it actually happened in top cut duels, but I saw it in lists.

There was also Crystron K9 players sending and reviving Spell Canceller, Dracotail players summoning Koa'ki Meiru Drago off of Seals, Mitsurugi searching the Water Barrier Statue, players using Thrust to search for Feather Storm or D.D. You can delete phone numbers in the original G/S/C since the game had limited memory for stored callers, but not in HG/SS. In HG/SS you can just not pick up the phone when someone calls, but it's not the same as just deleting them entirely.

If you're able to trade-evolve it, Gigalith is pretty good. If you can't, then Boldore with the Eviolite is still pretty good. Not the best use of the Eviolite in gen 5, but still a good one. On that note: TC, don't forget to grab the Eviolite! Bulbapedia says that you get it in Castelia City, from a scientist on the ground floor of a building near the central plaza. It's very useful, especially since some of the evolution levels in B/W are absurdly high.

I read through the whole document. Some offensive stuff in there, but some of them are just plain funny without being offensive.

"Hes got two words for the pitcher and theyre not happy birthday."

"Jimmy did I tell you they keyed my new beamer again. Sixth time this week... thinking of hiring a sniper service I saw advertised in Soldier of Fortune."

"Jimmy, did I tell you I took my grandson to the circus the other night. Some clown caught on fire. Only time I ever laughed at a clown. I dont know if it was a part of the act or not but it was funny."

"Tim, have you noticed how many fans are talking on cell phones during the game?"
"Well Jimmy, in the end theyre all going to die from brain tumors anyway. So theyll get theirs."

Good shit.

I figure if Gen 10 does release before I'm done with this, I might take a little break before drawing the new Pokedex anyway. I want to play the games as blind as possible and looking up the new additions before I encounter them in-game would ruin that for me.

Fair enough. If you get done with gen 9 but still feel like continuing to draw while you wait for and play gen 10, maybe you could draw some of the alternate forms you didn't draw already. Regional forms, mega evolutions, gigantimax forms, the Origin forms for the Sinnoh creation trio, etc.

Hambo posted...
That is amazing. Literally a drawing a day for two years is some wild commitment.

Agreed, this has been a joy to follow. It's a shame that we don't have easy access to the first 3 gens worth of drawings (it would take a lot of scrolling down TC's Bluesky account to reach those) but hopefully we can get a full album with all of them compiled together once TC is finally done.

Hambo posted...
You might actually run out of pokedex without missing a day. Awesome work.

If the rumors of gen 10 coming next year are true (which it seems likely given that 2026 is the 30th anniversary year for the Pokemon franchise) then TC might be finishing up the last of the gen 9 Pokemon right on time for gen 10 to bring him a new batch to draw.

It has nothing to do with a "play the way we want you to play" nonsense.

Steve is a DLC character. Nintendo want people to buy him. If he gets banned from official tournaments, that will hurt DLC sales, which in turn hurts their relationship with Microsoft.

If Steve were a base roster character, this wouldn't have happened.

Sonic is another character that some people (not as many as Steve but still a decent amount) want to see banned, and he's in the base roster. Have any major tournament in the past couple of years banned Sonic and were still allowed to run? If there have been some, then you may be right.

Even if that is the reason though, it still sucks.

I haven't heard any calls for Hero to be banned recently. He can cheese stocks with menu shenanigans sometimes, but it seems like he's too RNG dependent to consistently take wins and top placements. Meanwhile, Steve is a consistent dominating threat, and Sonic's "get a stock lead and then run away the rest of the match to win via time limit because no one else can catch him" strategy is just really unfun to play and watch.

Did Bayo ever get banned from SSB4, or Meta Knight from Brawl?

IIRC, both of them were banned by a few regions and tournaments, but Meta Knight only saw a widespread ban for about a year in 2011-2012 and Bayo never saw a widespread ban at all. Plus, as mentioned, Nintendo has tightened the metaphorical collar around the competitive Smash community in recent years. Every tournament above a certain size (which is basically every tournament of note to the SSBU competitive scene) needs to be approved by Nintendo to even happen at all.

Steve is broken as fuck in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and a lot of players want him banned, and a major upcoming SSBU tournament announced last month that they were banning Steve. However, today the tournament organizer tweets that they "got the call from the big boys" so Steve is legal for the tournament again, and now people are suspecting that Nintendo is threatening to shut down any SSBU tournaments that try to ban Steve. Considering how they've handled Mario Kart World and the players' dislike for the game's intermission tracks, I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to enforce a similar "play the game the way we want you to play it or don't play it at all" situation on SSBU as well.
