the admins in charge of the Star of David part of the Minecraft world already fired back on the "I Ran!" group.

this world instance might already be in a world war scenario and just isn't aware yet. we'll see how the other regional admins respond.

i mean it still runs the issue that the news is politics, politics is banned, news isn't, so ???.

like this isn't even a hypothetical with something as basic as poll of the day - internet privacy is highly political, we had a poll on it in January earlier this year, and it's blatantly because of the Google court case with a 5 billion dollar settlement.

it took the news then asked a political question - internet privacy - with multiple different answers.

there's no guideline or explanation whatsoever on how news can be covered really. intentionally broad sure but still really dumb at best, an asshole move at worst.

use from time to time, sure. use as a common place to go and check stuff, not for most things. wrestling yeah, maybe an interest or two if a game rolls out and i'm wanting to play with people. otherwise uh... probably not that much?

ah, wording correction. by "that title" i meant the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, that's what Moxley won and whatall those people have had. Omega hasn't had that one yet, he had its predecessor, the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. they merged the IWGP Intercontinental Championship with it to make it more uh... worldly.

okay naming schemes aren't their strong forte. it's clearly meant to continue the same legacy as big NJPW belt but in its infancy i find it remarkable to see all those people win it, then go to AEW. or be in AEW.

just saw a stat and laughed at it, but apparently since 2020 the Shield has had all of 4 days without somebody holding a world title.

just as Seth and Roman lost theirs, Mox won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship a few days ago.
weirdly AEW has more people who've had that belt than NJPW does - Ibushi, Ospreay, Okada, White, Moxley - and they can make rivalries if they really wanted to.

but didn't see anything in here point out that hey, he's the first grand slam champ of WWE, AEW, and NJPW.

did they get mad about how many poll of the days talk about politics?
was the poll in fact a political one and therefore got suspended?

like take this one, almost a year ago to the date:

04/22/2023 How concerned are you about environmental issues like climate change, pollution, and sustainability?

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/9165-how-concerned-are-you-about-environmental-issues-like

decided to check through polls and this one stood out the most for the year so far as a very political subject:

01/28/2024 Are you concerned about your privacy on the Internet?
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/9446-are-you-concerned-about-your-privacy-on-the-internet

internet privacy is highly political with lawsuits in the billions, in fact this poll was likely inspired from Google's 5 billion dollar settlement the month prior to it.

how dare the poll of the day talk about such subjects!
"Maybe it's a tentacle, molesting the planet itself. - Aschen Brodel.
doesn't surprise me at all. i'd expect both of those to have come up first before going 'nope, just ban it all, no halfway measures, fuck 'em.'

which is to say yeah, the policy is to run people off the site. there isn't any other actual answer. the theory would go "heavily political people are toxic, we don't want them, it'll be a less toxic community without them so we'll just ban all politics and kick them all out."

now this ends up grabbing way more people in the crossfire but the ends justify the means. until those ends result in losing so many people that even with desperate attempts like, say, another contest, you don't get remotely close to the traffic you once had because you ran people off and they don't care.

politics can definitely derail a topic that has nothing to do with it, that part's fair. and if that's what people get annoyed with, totally get it.

but blocking all of it is just the other extreme when there was a lot of middle ground to work with and now instead stifles discussion. making a politics topic to absorb 90% of it, easy. making the tag auto-blocked by default so you have to opt into that tag, also easy. if you want to limit political talk on a subject, you can also just make the rule of political talk should have the tag, otherwise moderate it. essentially the same rule as this only instead of "ban outright" it's "in a topic with the tag." more complicated and annoying sure but far less egregious than an outright ban.

easy examples would be say somebody wants to talk about gun ownership or about a relative having an abortion. topic could simply be about that without delving into gun control or pro-life/pro-choice arguments. if people wanna talk about that in those terms, just use the tag. if they don't, don't.

Is Saudi Arabia considered political?

Given the context it can be. As you opened the post tying it with LGBT, it is considered political in this case.

i mean unsurprising but now let's go a step further with this logic: Saudi Arabia wants to host the World Cup. let's say they succeed.

if somebody's asking how safe it is to go to that country because they're gay, this is no longer allowed. that is explicitly tying Saudi Arabia and their position on gay people.

i mean i can't blame him for starting to collapse if he's actually engaging with people because it's an untenable position. even by its own framework, definitions purposefully don't exist and explanations, unfortunately, keep the parts people are talking about vague and with unknown standards. you can't actually argue for the rule when the rule doesn't actually exist in any clear way and is admitted to having no reasonable definition that can apply, you can only shove it through. argument and conversation demand reason, the new rule explicitly lacks it.

even the idea of a "basic human right" isn't clear to everyone. some places consider water to be it, others don't. the US considers free speech the cornerstone of basic human rights, most of the world doesn't. as a result, both are political. there is no way to do this without policing speech. i don't get what's complicated.

worse than that Reg, CE is at the forefront of this issue because that's where a lot of are the mods come and where a lot of things get modded, partially because it's where a lot of people went to after the politics boards were killed.

essentially home field advantage + adopted the problem child + lowest common denominator.

highly doubt places like here, the UK board, or any other region has the same issues. with CE's already declining numbers, B8 + UK + another decent sized social board would have more content in all ways and a significantly smaller footprint of trouble. but it doesn't matter because that's not where the staff is or the "perceived problem."

pretty extensive wiki, thanks. the south though i think we'll avoid; it's only 2 weeks and Argentina's huge. i do tango so BA is obligatory with a decent amount but i don't need to go to that many milonga. Iguazu Falls is the main pitstop for a few days and there's a ??? on a second (not doing Uruguay because we're keeping it cheaper) but the south looks like it'd be a lengthy trip and probably already getting too cold for the parts that would be really cool, pun intended.

oh it's def a notice to say 'hey here we value our LGBT audience' but i mean... you wouldn't need that notice in the first place if it wasn't relevant. if it wasn't connected, why would it be brought up? like you don't need to make a notice about the best way to cook a potato after banning politics, it doesn't make sense. the fact that somebody felt like they do need to make a comment about Trans or LGBT says that it's understood that issues in those fields are intricately connected.

and it's still just being used a shield due to a vocal group. you won't get as many people mad that they can't talk about abortion and other groups under identity politics aren't as vocal right now. if there was something like George Floyd again, what then? magically would it become "OK"? realistically it's all the umbrella of identity politics and people know that.

I'm taking them being posted at the same time as a sign that talking about being trans isn't political, which is hopefully the case.

it's quite literally an admission to the opposite.
if LGBT stuff wasn't political, there would be no need for the topic at all. it'd simply be, moderation would already follow that. by making the topic it's acknowledging that yes it's political but it's also protected in some vague way that nobody knows, in any direction.

but if it's a social board then certain politics affects your daily life. today is tax day, that's politics. it's an election year, that's politics. the situation in Haiti, politics. if you live in/are traveling to Israel, anything related to going outside is connected to politics. if you live in/are traveling to Argentina, anything going on financially and outside is politics.
