I'm not used to seeing them on desks but I don't know where you would keep it either. Maybe in one of your drawers or on the ground beneath the desk.

I will probably sip on a Diet Dr. Pepper from now through the afternoon.

Are those farms really moving to Texas though? They're not even the cheapest state for electricity. I would think Crypto miners would go to midwest states or wherever elec is cheapest of all.

Sounds like they're just making excuses.

There are penalties and taxes if withdrawing from 401k before a certain age. Did you account for that?

I did. I'm going to do a Roth ladder and move money into a taxable account using a 5 year window. But I'll wait until I actually retire so that taxable income is at a lower income bracket (since it's a taxable event).

I need enough money in checking account + run that ladder long enough to make it until 59, when you can withdraw without penalty. That's also when medicaid should kick in IIRC. So I have to do my own personal health insurance plan between then, which the silver plan in my state is roughly $500 per month for coverage.

Im in a similar situation and looking at early retirement. I own my home and vehicle. All my monthly expenditures are about $1,500 a month. I mean absolutely everything. All required monthly bills, property taxes, insurance, food, gas, truly everything. Roughly $18,000 a year and like you I have lived well below my means for a long time.

Last year outside required monthly bills I only spent $75 the entire year. 1 game and 4 books. This year I literally just spent my first money of the year a week ago. I made a topic about it. $69.35. I spend very little and live in a cheap cost of living area of the Midwest.

I wont get into specific numbers but I expect to eclipse a million in my retirement in the next 5 years if I average 10% yield which historically has not been an issue. This isnt counting some other investments nor my savings itself which will be a fairly decent chunk as well. Like you Im not even looking at social security. From the time I was 18 I went in the assumption it wouldnt be there because thats what they told us. Anything I get would be a bonus.

And I hope this day never comes but if and when my dad were to pass there would be significant gains there but again I hope I never experience that until way way way later.

I dont have an exact set target number, but Im confident Im going to have more than I need and no way in hell am I working to 65 or 67. Im going to be done before then. In two weeks Im starting year 26 at my current job. I also spent 5 years in the Navy doing a similar job. So Ive been doing this type of work for 31 years. Im currently 48 years old. I definitely dont want to do another 17+ years of this. Ive had my fill. Im looking to be done somewhere in my mid to upper 50s.

So Ive had very similar thoughts to you and roughly estimated some napkin math myself. I totally get where you are coming from.

Congrats on how far you've come. I think you'll be fine.

How does one have a car paid for the rest of their life?

I'll drive this one until it falls apart probably. I do figure I'll need a new vehicle eventually. But it'll be a hybrid Camry or something.

How soon do you actually intend to retire?

Because *goes on doomer rant about how bad the climate situation is and how things like agriculture kinda need STABLE climates, etc etc etc*

With any luck maybe 8 years or so from now? I'll be 46 or 47 depending.

What did you invest in? I need to start.

My first job's 401k was a retirement scheduled account targeting 2045 or something like that.

My current job 401k is mostly tech stocks.

Any extra money I get in my brokerage I put into VOO. Invest money every week on Monday into VOO, it's a fund that covers many companies.

I thought about rolling the old 401k forward to my current one, but honestly it's been out-performing the new one's selections lol so I haven't touched it.

So you think you can live off $37k per year for the rest of your life? Okay

Yeah I think so. My city isn't a huge cost of living. I'm assuming $2k per month credit card expenditure too, where reality today is usually $1100 per month credit card. That is all food, gas, games, etc.

I also did the math for electric, water, trash pickup, insurance, health coverage, etc.

The point is the investment interest will be growing faster than my expenditures - so they just balance each other out and the "egg" does not shrink. Or if it does shrink it's slower than my end of life.

And I plan to live to 100 lol.

What about inflation?

I think the 4% rule accounts for inflation, because typically the market our performs that by more than the inflation rate. I can say for a fact my accounts have been averaging like 12% yield for the past 3 years.

Nothing is guaranteed of course, which is why I put my monthly credit card estimate higher than it usually is.

Not so humble bragging topic.

I guess. For what it's worth, I've lived below my means for 2 decades. Hardly any trips, vacations etc. Don't even go out to the movies really. Nothing better to do with money I didn't need right away so I invest most of it. My salary isn't crazy or anything.

Did all my annual expenses I could possibly account for, plus wiggle room, plus medical coverage before 55, etc. and found my annual total expenses are $37,260. House and car are finished. I live alone.

Doing the 4% rule roughly, at any point I eclipse $932,000 saved I could live off investment returns in perpetuity.

Luckily, adding all my accounts together etc. puts me over 2/3rds of the way there. With any luck I'll get the rest of the way within the next 8-10 years barring any cataclysmic events of course.

So I got that going for me - which is nice.

Edit: This all assumes no help from social security, ever. So if I get that running in my 60s then all the better.

Hardcore gun fanatics that don't want people "coming to take my guns"?

People deathly afraid of all foreigners who think immigration "ruins the country"?

Can call them "podcast" games.

Games that don't require your full attention. You can zone out and play and listen to a podcast or whatever else on the side. And just game away for hours and hours.

MMOs can be like this. Or roguelikes, or a grindey explorey section of an RPG where there's not much story happening.

It's zen. It's relaxing. it doesn't need my attention but still feels like I'm doing something.

Anyone else like a game like this?
