I've been watching the Nintendo Indie trailer today and noticed a few games starring frogs. That combined with the Bubbulfrogs in TOTK and the amount of work put into the Toad status in the FF7 remakes make me think that frogs have jumped a tier in popularity, which is something I put a fair amount of thought into. I figured I would post it and see what you all think.

Note that this isn't my personal opinions of animals, but rather how generally popular animals are among the general person. If I posted a funny meme of this animal or if I had to anthropomorphize an animal for something I'm creating, which ones are more likely to get positive reception? List is based on which animals have emoji. Some animals, even with emoji, I just left off the list because I don't think they're notable enough.

Sharks are way too low. Ever heard of Jaws? Maneater? Hell, people buy shark teeth and wear them as necklaces some times. Tier 5 is direspectful

I feel otters are popular enough to go up one tier. They're basically the cutest of the aquatic animals.

Whales should definitely be higher too since they're awesome as hell. Sharks as well.
I don't kill... but I don't lose either.

Horses and otters should move up a tier. Mice and deer should move down at least one tier.

Ducks definitely should not be left off the list. They seem quite popular to me.

EDIT: Oh right they fall under aquatic birds. But really they should be separated out from penguins then, maybe a tier up.

Also pandas should be separate from other bears, and unrelated, red pandas should be above Tier 1.

List is completely missing marsupials too. For shame.

You need a few more tiers so spiders and most other bugs can be well below every other type of creature. Almost no one likes spiders or shit like mosquitos.

The only bugs people like are honeybees, ladybugs, and maybe certain kinds of ants.

A lot of people like dragonflies and crickets and cicadas too! I know we're talking about people in general, but most bugs have at least a few fans. I personally like spiders and centipedes.

I haven't seen any bedbug, tick or mosquito apologists, though. Aside from talking in a strictly ecological sense (i.e., these species are important to their specific ecosystems). Though to be honest I'm not even sure of one existing at all for bedbugs.

Sharks should definitely be in the bottom of Tier 4, not Tier 5! Not sure what happened there.

I feel monkeys and spiders are both really divisive. I know a ton of animal lovers that just hate monkeys. Arachnophobia is huge, but a lot of people find spiders fascinating. I think they're still on the bottom tier, but they're above all the unranked stuff like mosquitos and bedbugs. Generalized Bug, I think of as like...ants, beetles, etc.

Raccoons are tough. I agree that they're probably higher in fiction, but they also kind of are an unliked animal, even in fiction.

I consider pandas/bears and ducks/geese/penguins to be the same. Maybe shift a bit in the tier, but definitely the same tier.

like I love a good magical deer, who doesnt

but who cares about normal deer nowadays

deer > turtles or deer > elephants would not fly in my circles

Nobody who has ever interacted with deer or mice would have them above F tier.

Strong disagree on mice. Two of the biggest, most recognizable mascots are mice, Mickey Mouse and Pikachu. Real mice suck but fictional mice are very popular. Could make and argument for tier 1 tbh

Raccoons are definitely more popular than 7, I mean even Rocket Raccoon alone should boost them higher.

Monkeys should probably be higher as well

Monkeys are in a weird kind of divisive zone - some people love 'em, some people hate 'em. If you were polling the furries primates as a whole would be pretty close to bottom, but I think overall they're probably somewhere in the middle.

as someone who is currently dealing with raccoon issues, i do think they're too low. i get that they're "pests" but ive seen a fair share of funny memes n such of them (also rocket raccoon!)

bees are in a similar boat to me. i think more people are making a distinction between bees and wasps nowadays, usually viewing the latter as more pest-like, but idk my opinions could be conflated by being active in a discord server that loves bees and bee memes lol

I'm not sure I understand what the list is based on - like how popular something is to be used as an anthropomorphized character, or how much we like it for any reason like being cute and cuddly or also because it looks cool af, or is it just when we have warm feelings about it and dont like when they get hurt or something? Or is this about how popular of a fursona they are?

Cause like, Spiders and Snakes are undoubtedly higher tier for a lot of reasons, we love using them for all kinds of stuff, but we don't necessarily have warm feelings about them.
