It's not no reason. I'm doing a whole ranking of all 1025 Pokemon, and Finneon was a new creation in the ABYSMAL Gen IV roster who offers nothing new or exciting compared to the three generations prior to it. It just exists, which is especially bad for a Pokemon of the most prominent typing in the games.
Inviso thinks all starters should be Fire/Fighting.

I wish I liked Yanmega more as well. Yanma is one of my favorites and he just looks like a friend.

Yanmega looks completely devoid of any personality whatsoever. Big bummer :(

Aww, Sunflora and especially Rabsca out is bad. Luckily I think Rabsca is likely to still be safe.

Similar to Finneon, I'm not sure why people hate Sunflora so much. It's just a happy sunflower. Battle prowess aside, it's not like "it's just a flower" Pokemon were overkill by Gen II. Yeah, that movepool was awful, but at least it wasn't "all you get is Tackle until all the way to 44 when you learn... Mega Drain" like Jumpluff!

I'm more disappointed than hateful about Sunflora. Sunflowers are my favourite flower and the dopey kiddy aesthetic of Sunflora ain't really my jam. Like, I get it, if a flower Pokemon gotta be dopey it would be a sunflower one, but it still ain't my jam!

Luvdisc manages to hang on to last place!

I feel like Jynx was close to being something cool. Humanoid at a time where that was rare, two rare types in a unique combo. If they'd gone a direction other than weird racism, it coulda been something.
