A lot of praise for 1-5, with several people rating it just around 1-4 or even above 1-4. It definitely feels like a case unlike any other AA case, for better or for worse. While pacing was an issue, people generally were fine with it because Day 3 is so jam-packed with good stuff.

Summary:

Phoenix has to defend police officer Maggey Byrde in the murder of her boyfriend. There's only one problem--he can't remember who she is! Or, for that matter, who he is!

Main Characters: Phoenix Wright, Maya Fey, Dick Gumshoe, Winston Payne, The Judge
Other Characters: Maggey Byrde, Dustin Prince, Richard Wellington

My rating: 4/10. I really doubt anyone will give this case a higher rating than me. It has its major faults - filler tutorial case, dumb amnesia plot, and the nonsensical murder message. But I've always thought this was a fun case. It's quick, but has meat to it. I like the characters, the dialogue, and the animations.

It's overhated. Maggey is good, Wellington is a fun villain, and the whole Phoenix has amnesia thing is kinda funny for a quick throwaway tutorial plot. The writing is significantly better than 1-1 - this is classic AA at its full stride, not pilot-episode AA - and the trick with the phone at the end is clever enough.

But yeah there isn't really a whole lot to judge this on, it's pretty short.

.5 because the banana thing is funny but MAN this case is bad
Ace Attorney always struggled with "justifying" tutorials and this is the biggest result of that.

4/10

This is probably my lowest ranked case that I'd say I like. There are a lot of funny jokes related to Phoenix's amnesia, so I don't mind this as the conceit for a tutorial case. Wellington is the right amount of smug and dumb for a tutorial villain. Maggey is likable enough for me. Dustin Prince might be the best name pun in the series. Gumshoe crushing on Maggey is still kinda weird, but yeah.

It just doesn't have enough going for it for me to rank it above any other actually good case.

Bad tutorial case but it being short and having a few decent moments keeps it from getting a lower score.

Sadly, there are no second chances in the Guru, azuarc doesn't need one.
1/10. Its the worst case in the series.
I just decided to change this sig.
Blaaaaaaargh azuarc

It's funny that if you skip this case it doesn't matter at all until the next game.

the amnesia thing is kinda stupid, but this is a franchise where kinda stupid works fine. and i did think it was interesting how the amnesia tutorial case centers around the police. maggey's delivery doesn't feel so awkward because of course she would know a thing or two about law.

speaking of maggey, i love her to bits. i feel guilty about ranking so low because i think about this precious bean. wellington is goddamn annoying but that's like the point. and the banana stuff makes the annoyance SO worth it. oh and phoenix not recognising payne is another funny moment i gotta mention.

i almost gave it a 5, but i wish it was a bit shorter. at the end of the day, it is still one of the most unnecessary cases to me as a veteran aa fan.

yet all azuarc of all sorts are more or less capricious and unreliable - they live in the varying outer weather, and they inhale its fickleness
6/10

I liked this case. It was my first AA case, so maybe I'm biased, but it helped me to get into the series.

This is actually my least favourite case in the whole series.

Don't get the hate. It's short, and not particularly offensive. Feels like an okayish tutorial case.

It's tempting to linger in this moment, while every possibility still exists. But unless collapsed by an observer, they will never be more than possibilities.

The points are almost all due to Maggey becoming a semi-relevant side character later on

At first I thought the "banana-scented bandana" was this case... apparently not. What case, then?

I was prepared to be more generous, but the amnesia thing is dumb.

The name on that card tells people who I am! It even told ME that I'm "Phoenix Wright"!

Now I remember that this was also my first case. It was a weird experience starting with an amnesiac Phoenix!

This ones a strong contender for least favorite from the original trilogy. Still has some of that PW charm though!
Moops?

It's interesting that Payne's confident animation where he's bouncing his hair debuts in this game...even though there's no hair to bounce. I guess they already had the idea of a flashback case?
