Best Pokemon Type by Generation, Day 5: FAIRY

Board 8 » Best Pokemon Type by Generation, Day 5: FAIRY
I've done this style of poll contest once before, back in either Gen VII or Gen VIII, so why not try it again now? The rules are simple: each day, I'm going to post a poll for a given Pokemon typing, with each generation's roster of new Pokemon filling in that typing. You just need to look at what each generation had to offer, and select which generation you think brought the best new roster (for any reason; you could say that a single Pokemon was so good that it overwhelms everything else the generation spawned, or you could select a generation that may be more well-rounded that the one that created your personal favorite). At the end of the day, one generation will be crowned a champion (with potential tiebreakers if need be), and that generation will advance to a second round, where the eighteen winners, and fourteen strongest runner-ups will be sorted into a 32-entrant tournament to crown which generation produced the best overall roster of a single typing.

Despite the usual Genwunner bias in these sorts of polls, Electric was the first typing to secure a win (or even a wild card berth) for Gen I. It didn't QUITE get a strong run for its money from Gen V, but four rounds in and Gen V has proven to have some strong defenders (except when it comes to dragons).

For today's contest, we're doing Fairy-types. It's interesting, because there are Fairies in every generation, but most generations only retroactively got Fairies added to existing Pokemon, so who knows how that will affect popularity. Given Gen VI's limited roster, I have folder Mega Evolutions into their list, as those were, effectively, some of the new Pokemon created in lieu of brand new designs for Gen VI. I'll keep the same concept for later typings as well. Note: I will not be considering things like Dialga/Palkia's form changes in Gen VIII, as those are still technically the same in the way Giratina's form change was back in Gen IV.

Bug: Gen V (44.12%)
Dragon Gen III (41.67%)
Electric: Gen I (37.50%)
Dark: Gen II (26.87%)

Alright this time it's gotta be gen 7
:)
Gotta be Gen 6. Mega Gardevoir is great and Mega Mawile made a worthless Pokemon solid. Most of the others are pretty good too like Floette
It's definitely not Gen IV (almost nothing except a baby and an evolution of something from Gen II), Gen V (the only Fairy is a less-than-great line), and Gen VI (holy hell for the generation that introduced Fairy-types, Sylveon is the only truly GOOD Pokemon on that roster). Gen VIII & Gen IX have some good stuff, but they also have some trash. Gen III has two stars, but also a worthless baby and Ralts. Similarly, three of Gen II's are babies, and Snubbull isn't THAT great either. So it comes down to Gen I (which I think is almost perfect except Wigglytuff is kinda lame) and Gen VII (which has more duds...but also a much larger roster.)

I've gotta go with Gen VII, because A-Ninetales, Primarina, Cutiefly, Ribombee, Mimikyu, and the Tapus are SUCH high quality, and Morelull/Shiinotic are good choices for Grass/Fairy.

Feels bad to vote gen 1 here but it's got an 80% hit rate and nothing else beats that
"You're childish. What are you getting? Are you getting strawberry? Ha! That's such a childish flavor, only children eat strawberry."
Gen III

I love me some Gardevoir and Mawile.
"Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So... what is a party?"
"You drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think."
I feel really bad for Togekiss getting handcuffed to Mime Jr

anyway gen 7 was an easy pick because it has my #1 favorite pokemon and #8 favorite pokemon of all time in it
Gen 7 is a blowout imo. The tapus vary between good and great, mimikyu is awesome, cutiefly and ribombee are good, primarina is fabulous and A-ninetales is even floofier than regular ninetales.
I'm am hungry I want some lasaga
Im a simple man. I see Aromatisse, i vote aromatisse.

Easy VII. I completely forgot the Tapus are Fairy.
I can't live forever

...Galarian Weezing is Fairy-type?!?!

Gen IX for me
MZero , to the extreme

The actual Gen VI Pokemon are mostly underwhelming, but the Fairy Megas are all pretty good to great. Gen VII is competitive, but I still give VI the edge.
Change is weird.
Thought I'd be voting for 6, but yeah, other than Sylveon, Xerneas and Floette... and maybe Klefki... yeah.... there are some real stinkers there.

Ended up going with I.

This made me remember that I hate most fairies.

Fairy is my favorite type lol
Went Gen 8, and it wasnt even close; Enamorus may be the worst of the worst legendary set design-wise, but I dont care for most of the Tapus, and Alcremie wound up on my final semicomp team. Plus, for the dirty minded people, come on, Milcery is right there.

Hatterne and Grimmsnarl's whole line are both brilliant, G-Weezing hilarious, G-Rapidash pretty, and Zacian gets the "best cover legendary for its generation plus a few others" award. 9/10 hits for me.

I'd say Gen VII has more actual new Pokemon over Gen VI, which relies a lot more on its Megas. The actual Gen VI new introductions are a bit underwhelming besides Flabebe/Floette/Florges, Sylveon, Xerneas, and Diancie. Gen VII handled the new introductions a lot better than Gen VI.

My favorite type as well.

Popular at school, but not as cool as azuarc , Guru Champ!
A-Ninetales and Primarina are elegant.
Ribombee is surprisingly solid, especially for in-game.
Shiinotic...
Comfey has a cute design.
Mimikyu is really strong and I love the Hone Claws + Shadow Sneak + Disguise combo.
The Tapus are...okay.
Magearna is horrible.

Still Gen VII overall.
God has heard my soul.
Went with 7, but no great choices
Not to be confused with XIII_Minerals.

Gen VII is probably my most hated of all of these options. I will never understand the love for Mimikyu or the Tapus.

Pretty much this yeah
It's tempting to linger in this moment, while every possibility still exists. But unless collapsed by an observer, they will never be more than possibilities.
Low bar, but easy gen 7. It's surprising how bad gen 6's lineup is considering fairies were its main focus.
Thinking about it, I'm suddenly very frightened for Water day.
