Another year of having to pile on better sides to make the turkey more edible.

Even good turkey is inferior to better meats being prepared well.

It's not about turkey. Beef is a bland, dry meat to people who grew up like this too. They literally go out and spend $85 on a ribeye because they refuse to cook meat properly at home.

No one ever lines up to order turkey. They line up regularly for the beef.
In all honesty, this is maybe the third most pivotal reason why I left gauntlet crew. Some traditions are meant to be buried, like fruitcakes at Christmas, cheering for SEC teams (or any schools in Confederate states), or watching A Christmas Story in December.

Indeed. Even from the first turkey I cooked, every single one has been moist and delicious. Even an amature can cook a proper turkey with the most basic of skills if they have the slightest idea of how it is done. So for me, this is an annual reminder to feel bad for Red.

Thats just a culture thing.

Go to a ren fair, and everybodys lining up for a smoked turkey leg.
Hey man nice shot.

Any fair will have people doing that. Turkey legs are pretty standard amusement park snacks.

I say snacks loosely because they are fucking heavy. i tend to not do it because it'll drag you down the whole day.
I get turkey when I go to buffets (and sometimes I'll even skip the beef).
Change is weird.

I generally don't make turkey at home, meanwhile I routinely cook better beef than the medium well prime rib that many buffets serve. Like, the fancy ass expensive ones, yeah I'll take all their carving station options, but the mid priced ones? Ehh, depends on how much overall variety they have.

Medium well? Wow you need to find better buffets. Even the cheaper ones I know of its become routine to have it rare or mr and then they'll cook it to order for the people with bad taste.
Our turkey has actually gotten better in recent years but still have to drown it in stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy.
We do have a new Thanksgiving ritual the last few years...beheading the turkey shaped butter sticks.

Turkey I had today was great.

Yeah, I wouldn't say "drown", but today was some of the best turkey I've ever had, and it still was way better with a good amount of gravy & mashed potatoes
azuarc wasn't even home. he was playing Magic the Gathering at his buddy's store, which is extremely easy to verify
our gravy looked kind of weird so i didnt trust it but everyone said it was fine.

This is just a traditional meme, I'd like to think red has had good turkey before he just can't break the facade and lose the ability to post this topic each year.

I've never personally cooked a bad turkey. I've had bad turkey from others sure, but turkey is honestly a really simple thing to cook. It's always better than chicken without fail, it's just superior. Chicken dominates the market because it's the cheapest animal to raise.

In all seriousness I order turkey from restaurants all the time because its typically the healthiest thing on the menu that is also good.

But I wouldn't call it the tastiest thing.

If people actually preferred turkey, it would exist. You'd get like 2 turkey wings instead of 8 chicken wings.

I mean, maybe no one's tried it! Turkey wing prices are comparable, and actually generally a little lower, than chicken wings per pound. Turkey drumsticks definitely have their place, so maybe it's time for the wings to shine a little bit too.

Congrats to BKSheikah , who knows more about years than anyone else.
The cheesecloth method works wonders for turkey.
I think turkey wings probably have economies of scale working against them. I doubt there's a mass supplier of turkey wings that's going to be nearly as cost effective as chicken wings are.

Because both chicken wings and turkey are billion dollar industries and it doesn't take a genius to see that turkeys have wings too. AND most turkey sold is breast meat or legs, so turkey wings are super cheap as opposed to constantly in shortage like chicken wings.
