Ok, after serious consideration of the clues:
  1. on sale on steam
  2. bad
  3. oldish, but more recent than 15 years ago
  4. dmc on the right track
  5. dead rising on the wrong track


I have come to an answer that I feel good about:

its on sale on Steam, like ten years old, a sort of reboot/black sheep of an established series like DMC, and not from capcom (I feel like that is the wrong track Dead Rising was on)

Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z

its $3, which is cheap enough to justify an impulse buy of crap and a giveaway. It all works.

I've never heard of Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, and I'm looking at it, and I honestly can't tell what's supposed to be so horrendous about it compared to other character action games of this style
