The movie actually has very poor reviews, but they all just barely above the line to technically be considered Fresh.

Rotten Tomatoes is kind of busted like that. If a movie has nothing but dozens of 61s across the board, it will have a higher Fresh rating than a movie with dozens of 100s and 2 40s.

That's how these types of movies almost always are. They rarely use any kind of subtly or nuance in the plot or humor. It's just the "wackiness" that you see from the trailer, but goes on for far too long, making the same joke over and over, and quickly wearing out its welcome. And they don't need to try to be clever, because the people that go to see it, see the trailer, and think "that looks great! I can't wait to see what happens", and it plays out exactly how you'd think it happens with every scene being the same obvious joke, because the creators are counting on the outrageous premise being enough to elevate it for their intended audience, so they get lazy on the writing.

Right, and that's what I was expecting from this movie, but if it's actually being well received by critics maybe it has more?

I'll be watching it this weekend regardless. No point to have an unlimited movie pass if you don't use it to see random movies.

Went and watched it. Honestly... I feel it totally lost its appeal as it departed from the premise. Would've been great if it just stuck with the whole oddball campy horror angle they had for most of it. Most if not all of the stuf I liked was already shown in the trailer so meh

Yeah, we saw it on Friday and had a blast. It's the kind of absurd violence and humor that I could see myself throwing on again from time to time.

But some people in my showing brought their children. Just awful parenting, it is NOT a movie for kids.

How does someone look at a movie titled " Cocaine Bear" and think to themselves "yep, the kids can come to it"?

Sounds like a case of the parents wanting to go but can't be arsed leaving their kids at home or have someone watch over them so they brought them along.

I watched it. I'm not necessarily sure it was a good movie, but I did find it very entertaining! This was a first time since before Covid I'd been to the cinema, and in that context it was an excellent choice.
