Kicked off Final Fantasy IX yesterday

Board 8

So I'm at the 2 hour mark - just reached the next save point. Playing as Steiner was pretty unexpected - he's what, our third playable character so far? - and while I was confused at first, it appears that my mission was simply rounding up the other Knights of Pluto? They're all goofs and I quite enjoyed the comedy here; seems like Steiner has a little rivalry with Beatrix. I kind of hate this character design archetype with the small head and short legs. But he's funny, and it's even funnier when he plays along with the play , acting all horrified when Garnet "dies."

I don't understand why Queen Brahne has to look like this, but I supposed she's obviously the (a) villain if she doesn't care about Garnet's well-being other than being alive.

The two cutscenes here are excellent. I prefer the first where Zidane, Garnet, and Steiner plummet from the watchtowers; however, the second one - the airship's escape and the cannon-launched harpoons - is also magnificent.

Bizarrely, we're at two hours into the game and I'm pretty sure we have yet to have a real battle. We've had a bunch of gag/plot battles but not a single one that was just straight-up. Am I crazy? Is this game crazy? FFVI and FFVII just threw me right into it. The actual plot events and set pieces have been fun enough to carry us, and I guess I wouldn't totally object to the game just being setpieces and plot events... but yeah, feels weird!
yet all azuarc of all sorts are more or less capricious and unreliable - they live in the varying outer weather, and they inhale its fickleness
