Hey having difficulty on the game

Where the heck is a blacksmith so I can sell all these swords?

Biggest tip I can give you is not to loot everything you see weapon wise or youll constantly be over your maximum weight and have an awful time
True that

Best tip:

1) start every combat by casting Quen

2) when Quen is broken cast Quen

3) Quen

The only thing I remember about combat is that I focused on Alchemy (the green branch), as this is supposed to make you overpowered in the late game, but I felt pretty strong most of the way through.

The swordplay is a bit jank but if you're struggling with it spec into light attacks and Whirl because it's busted

Whatever you decide it's better to focus skill points into one discipline early rather than attempting a balance. For example the potions build eventually makes you an unkillable damage sponge but it isn't worth investing into partially when you don't have a lot of skill points.
I definitely did not forget to put the 2020 GOTD Guru winner, azuarc in my sig!
i honestly cant figure out how to level up now

Don't underestimate potions or spells or oils. Dodging attacks is important and all, but the game really rewards doing a bare minimum of preparation

Play on the easiest mode to engage the awful combat with as little stress as possible.

tbh playing on the highest difficult youre capable of makes it more fun because it requires actual thought.
On easy, yeah, its literally just boring pick-sword-swing-sword

A big help for me was learning gear/items sell for very different prices based on where you're located. I recommend checking a guide for all the ins and outs, but once you reach the main big city, Novigrad, sell most of your weapons and armor there. It's the best place for that stuff unless you have the Blood & Wine DLC.

This goes a long way in optimizing your money to afford the best gear. Then yeah, use the shit out of Quen in combat, apply oils, use potions liberally since they replenish, etc. I think I focused mainly on the attack skills early on, though later the alchemy path has some totally busted builds.

I know all the guides say to spec into light attacks, but I found going into heavy attacks made the game extremely easy

Also this. There's no time limit in any combat, so just apply your shield, dodge around, and attack when able

What makes quen so good is that you can't be interrupted/staggered while it's up

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.
is there a good way to know where on the open world i can really "go"? like, sometimes Ill just go to random ?'s and shit will be 7+ levels over me

Yeah you can definitely go into "high level" areas if you are prepared to run away from everything.

Don't do all the question marks, especially in Skellige, or you will go insane. The only detrimental part of that game is the "open" world since it's not really meant to be played like that at all imo. Just do all quests because most of them are great.

Oh yeah I'll second that. Skellige is great but it's not worth chasing things down
~Peaf~
Yeah. You can spend a lot of time in the ocean for some pretty lame loot.

It is!

You arent going to find a better tip in the game. It makes the game even on the hardest difficulty trivial.

Made it to level 6. I got killed by a random griffin that wouldnt stop pursuing me. That was fun.

If you do every single question mark you will be 100 hours in before leaving novigrad and oh God why did i do this
