In the first timeline, 14-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker are moved to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town, forced on them right as adolescence is in full swing. But the more time they spend there, the more they come to realize that the town is more than it seems and their father may be concealing dark secrets. Secrets that could destroy the world.
Cut to the second timeline, well over a decade into the future: there are less than fifteen million people left on Earth. And more than six billion monsters people and animals infected with the T-virus. Jade, now thirty, struggles to survive in this New World, while the secrets from her past about her sister, her father and herself continue to haunt her.

Netflix has greenlighted eight hourlong episodes of Resident Evil . Bronwen Hughes ( The Walking Dead , Breaking Bad) will executive-produce and direct the first two episodes. The show comes from Constantin Film, the company behind the Resident Evil film franchise starring Milla Jovovich.

I feel like "the main characters are Wesker's kids" sounds like a better plot twist than something to just reveal from minute one.

Is that a lot? $1.2B worldwide from a six-movie series doesn't sound that impressive. Are there even any movie series with that many movies that have made less? (excluding direct to video series)

Yeah, but that's only an argument if they had previously made a big budget live action Resident Evil that actually followed the plot of the games that had bombed. If anything, if they can sell so well despite being terrible, they've got nothing to lose by trying to actually follow the plot of one of the games.
