Regarding the seven seconds thing, yeah, I get the feeling Cloud is going to make a heroic save there since that is very much the time it took Sephiroth to kill Aerith. Which...well, it sure would be a thing if he killed Cloud instead, wouldn't it
Then Zack can rightfully take his place as the main character!
