I am not keeping count

Just started this game
and just like with Bloodborne I am forever stuck in character creation
I think I will go for the old witch ring myself

The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma...
too late
anyway, feels sorta like bloodborne so far
still need to figure out this parrying and back attacking

and Asylum demon wasnt so bad (the second time around, once you actually got a longsword)
so what stats are the best to level at first?
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
Vitality and endurance

And focus on strength if you want an easier game
Let the past die. Kill it if you have to.
kinda weird to not have enemies drop stuff all the time
lack of vials I guess

also all these bossdoors not immediately leading to bosses is nerve-wracking and oh god thats a dragon
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
this is your first time through the game, yes? if so, then yeah, good thing you didn't get the master key. might end up getting lost unlocking doors that you should save for later!

can't go wrong with vit and end, for sure. strength for the big, slow weapons. dex for the fast, light weapons. generally speaking of course, since there are exceptions to the typical str/dex weapon.

don't bother with resistance.

intelligence for magic spells, faith for miracles

the game doesn't tell you how to get more uses out of your estus flask, so i won't feel bad about just telling you straight up how to do it.

use a humanity item when you're next to a bonfire. might as well use two right away. you should see 02 on the top left corner next to your health and stamina.

sit next to a bonfire. choose "reverse hollowing". your zombie character should look human afterward. then choose "kindle". that should bring up the number of estus flask uses to 10 whenever you sit on that particular bonfire you just kindled.
all you need
I tried that all on my own actually, but it said I didnt have the ritual for it or something
Estus are up to ten somehow, I figured that was for me beating asylum demon

I know a little about the game, a few bosses and locations, but not when and how (and I hear this game is less linear than bloodborne anyway)
and now I found the Undead Burg merchant
what to buy, what to buy
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
There's bonfires that are automatically kindled.
There's always hope for better things in life. But you can't let anything, friend, lover,God himself,be your hope. You have to be your own hope
More specifically any bonfire with a firekeeper will already be kindled. The firelink shrine bonfire is why you currently have 10 estus.
Let the past die. Kill it if you have to.
ah I see
so if I kindle the one near the dragon, it'd have the same effect
not sure if I need to do that yet though
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
You'll start realizing which bonfires you want kindled eventually. If you do online stuff, humanity isn't rare either, so you can go crazy!

something told me I didnt wanna mess with that black knight guy
and indeed I didnt

dead
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
okay, probably need to adjust my senses more to defending than dodging
I am used to having bosses with more open space
but Taurus Demon was having none of that, and killed me once because I couldnt maneuver well
thank god one of those hollows dropped an axe for me
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
Tagging this, first time through dark souls is magic
Taurus Demon is a wake-up call even in a game full of wake-up calls.
E come vivo? Vivo!
dark souls is kinda like demon's souls in that the arena you fight a boss in is a much bigger factor than it is in the later games. i kinda sorta miss that!
all you need
I'd say some of the bloodborne bosses were that way too
particularly at the start (Gascoigne, BSB, Witches, One Reborn, Micolash especially)

but I see what you mean
longer and faster battles probably demanded bigger arenas
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
made it to the undead parish
avoiding the dragon along the way and rats
I hate rats, and I hate poison

these areas are quite easy to get lost in
got as far as finding the smith, freeing Lautrec, getting the firekeeper soul and finding the elevator back to the firelink shrine
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
Sounds like you're going along at a decent pace!

Similar to bloodborne, finding the dlc can be tricky. And you're right that it's a lot slower, but that may be because of your equipment load. If you're below 25%, you can roll more quickly. It'll never be as good as bloodborne's dodging, but it helps.

Info on Spell Slots, if you want to use magic:

Attunement 10 = 1 Spell Slot
Attunement 12 = 2 Spell Slots
Attunement 14 = 3 Spell Slots
Attunement 16 = 4 Spell Slots
Attunement 19 = 5 Spell Slots
Attunement 23 = 6 Spell Slots
Attunement 28 = 7 Spell Slots
Attunement 34 = 8 Spell Slots
Attunement 41 = 9 Spell Slots
Attunement 50 = 10 Spell Slots

There is no benefit to go any higher than 50.
Warning, the self-destruct system has been activated, all personnel should evacuate immediately, 5 minutes to detonation.
I accidentally uncovered the fat roll when I equipped a fancy shield yeah
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
Yeah, in Dark Souls 1, equip load is a tough thing to balance, keeping under the 25% minimum leaves little room for what you can equip if you want the fastest roll speed. Since I like some of the powerful heavy weapons, that eats into the percentage fast.

Is it advised to start upgrading weapons btw?
I have some titanite stuff (thanks pretty crystal lizard) and can buy more
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
i'll give you gascoigne and micolash for bloodborne bosses that the arena truly matters! you'll see how it's more pronounced in this game as you go along.

upgrade away! early game weapon upgrades make a significant impact.
all you need
Yeah you should. Shards are pretty common so don't hesitate to use them. Save the chunks and slabs for your preferred weapon though - they're pretty rare until the very end of the game.
No matter how tender, how exquisite... A LIE WILL REMAIN A LIE.
its the old twin shard/chunk problem eh

I do know dark souls has a lot more weapons, though a lot of them feel the same
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
That's why i prefer bloodborne, the weapons have more character.

That being said, ds1 is better than ds3 in that regard. Weapons of the same class can have different movesets.

It's also different from bloodborne in that once you get a weapon to +5, you need a special item to get it to +6. Same for going from 10 to 11.
~Peaf~
well, I killed Bell Gargoyles in the first try
+4 sword might have been overkill, but whatevs

also managed to take down a black knight after an initial backstab and repeated learning of his attack patterns
got a nifty yet sadly unuseable BK sword out of it :(

now I wonder if there is a way past the hellkite dragon

I suppose I could try Darkroot Gardens, but that area felt rather highlevel
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
bump
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
BK weapon is good to go through the game with if youre willing to get the stats for it

Have you explored all of the parish? And the burg?
I keep seeing that one bonfire locked behind a gate, but I cant get to it

also its easy to lose track of keys
but I used the mystery key and the basement key

also met that happy sin absolver guy
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
Oh and clearly the best character, Siegmeyer
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
two more bosses down
Capra demon killed me once because I didnt expect him to just appear so quickly

Gaping Dragon killed me twice because he just hit damn hard (and the camera didnt help)
Probably the first intense dragged out boss fight

now I can do the infamous Blight Town (where I already suffered my first WHY AM I TOXIC? moment)
or Darkroot Basin for fun
or whatever is down in those old ruins
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
If Capra Demon only killed you once on your first playthrough, that's pretty good.
"One toot on this whistle will take you to a far away land."
-Toad, SMB3
You can die as many times as you like.
"Bordate is a pretty shady place, what with the gangs, casinos, evil corporations and water park." - FAHtastic
of course once I did kill Capra Demon, all those guys outside the bossdoor came swarming in and killed me anyway
<.<
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
Yeah. Thats lower undead burg.

Blight town is the last part of the game where the game just blatantly tries to disrespect you. After this, its fun time.

"This land is peaceful, its inhabitants kind."
~Peaf~
Blighttown is an amazing area and the only other one that still made me feel that old dark souls feeling on my first playthrough of the remastered version
all you need
Blighttown is ez

(with the masterkey)
Let the past die. Kill it if you have to.
down down in blightown
I dont wanna know what this place was like with framerate issues
and if I never have to see that bonfire view (the one that starts me off in a different direction than I want to head into, argh!), it will be too soon
I made it to the swamp at least, and got some goodies and killed most of the toxic dartsmen
(that spidershield has been a godsend, and looks pretty cool)

this place is huge

btw, I did take a small detour to darkroot basin/gardens (to farm mosses), but I didnt feel like fighting either the Hydra or the valley of the drakes yet

I did fight Moonlight Butterfly
what a weird boss, spent more time dancing around than hitting it
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
What weapon are you primarily using?
~Peaf~
I was using a Battle axe
but know I have the starts to use that BK sword of mine
it varies

(not as much as what armor I am using, that changes all the time)
3DS FC: 3437-4283-5849 IGN: Alice
Black knight weapons are a little trickier to upgrade since they're special, so they require a different kind of titanite. But they are a lot of fun, if you like their movesets.
~Peaf~
I like their ability to wreck low poise enemies

also I got a second firekeeper soul
which, from the few bits of info I did have beforehand, is bad news for someone

Currently playing through this myself (first time also). Super slowly since I don't have a lotta time to play, but you're doing better than me! Definitely didn't kill the Bell Gargoyles my first try........or 10th.
Not changing this sig until the Winnipeg Blue Bombers win the grey cup. Started Aug. 16/04
My favorite weapons are the Zweihander, and one of the boss soul weapons, namely the Greatsword of Artorias cursed variant [Use a Bastard Sword+10 and the Soul of Sif to ensure you get the cursed variant when creating the weapon at the Anor Londo blacksmith]. Very few of the weapons in the game are designed to deal damage to the ghost enemies in New Londo Ruins without being Cursed or using the Transient Curse item. The only issue is the weapon's requirements: 24 STR, 18 DEX, 18 INT, 18 FAI
Warning, the self-destruct system has been activated, all personnel should evacuate immediately, 5 minutes to detonation.
God i need to play this game again

Ive kind of always wanted to get hella drunk and try to play through it (while streaming on twitch of course) >___>
