You're the best (music), around, nothing's ever gonna keep you down.

124 Gurus were better than me in BGE 2015 contest! But the best of all was DpObliVion! Congrats!

Thumper
Super Meat Boy is the best of these. Hotline Miami 2's OST is much better than the first game's. I don't think I've ever seen anyone talk about Rocket League's music.
All the stars in the sky are waiting for you.

this is also my top 3 though I'd put necrodancer first
You put your RESOLVE HAT back on, which conveniently is the same hat as your NORMAL HAT.

Hotline Miami, Undertale, Bastion, and FTL are likely going to be my favorites for a very long time. I think Hotline Miami edges out everything else though.

Castle in the Darkness

But I was not expecting Rocket League to be mentioned.
It's that of the ones listed.
I have to give it to Castle in the Darkness though just because it was made by one guy.

Pretty good list, other than that I've never heard of LISA the Painful.

LISA the Painful is a status-based RPG that lacks some polish but also somehow benefits from being raw. Tonewise, think anti-Undertale. Pretty sure it'll inspire somebody one day to make a more mainstream masterpiece.

If you can deal with occasionally walking off cliffs by accident and an extreme clash of light/dark humor, it's cheap enough to be worth a shot (skip the DLC though).

Out of the games' soundtracks ya'll mentioned that I played but didn't list:

Dustforce > Cave Story > Battleblock Theatre

I've literally never heard anyone talk about Rocket League's soundtrack, is it even notable?
Necrodancer
Can't choose between Undertale, Necrodancer, VVVVVV, or FTL

I think I'd say Undertale > Hotline Miami > FTL.
DPOblivion was far more determined than me.
Hotline Miami 2 is inferior to Hotline Miami

Hotline Miami 2's soundtrack is superior to Hotline Miami's

Does nobody else get hyped when they hear "Underwater" before the beat drops? Regardless, I agree it's the oddball of the poll.

VVVVVV's the tightest and most consistently good of the sountracks here, but I voted Undertale. It's close, it's more emotional, and it has like another ninety minutes of music.

VVVVVV as well for me. I like the other indie game soundtracks, but they usually just have that 1 or 2 good song with the rest being "ok".

For a consistently good playlist, I recommend Dust Force. Also doubles as good work music.
It's not so cliche anymore when it's happening to you.

yeah that's exactly it - the emotion's not there because I've never played it, so it's pretty whatever to me

emotional response shouldn't really be a factor in "best" anyway - favorite , sure, but to me, "best" implies that external factors like when it played in the game should be ignored

(for the record, my #2 is La-Mulana 2005)

Video game soundtracks are designed to be listened to within the game's own moments, so it makes more sense to consider the game that uses music to incite emotional response to compliment the scenes at play would be better than a soundtrack that just has catchy background music. Basically, I think the exact opposite of what you think.

I think the Undertale soundtrack is great even removed from the game. I liked it long before I ever touched the game.

Not nearly enough Bastion appreciation. Though, narration probably needs to count as part of the soundtrack.

Necrodancer. Undertale's music is good, but it hasn't won most of my airtime.
