First match is kind of a landslide. The Umineko song is one of those that I'm just completely neutral towards, whereas Aurora's Theme is one of my favorites in the contest. Honestly I have a pretty huge thing for somber string-based pieces like this in general, and this one is no exception. And also that reminds me--no one nominated Hepatica 3 this year and now I'm sad.

Second match is also kind of a landslide but for the opposite reason. Eleganza is for me that one song in these contests that I just have no understanding of what anyone sees in it. Well in any case I don't really like anything about it, especially those weird vocal sounds that come in at around 0:50. Kolima Forest is a nice but not amazing atmospheric piece, but that's more than enough to get my vote and then some.

Bonus match is actually really solid stuff unlike the rest of today. Any of the Halo Theme variants have always been good listens. I don't remember listening to An Ill Omen before today, but I actually like it a lot. (Looking at the spreadsheet I see it did well in VGMC9 which I might have some vague memory of, but it effectively is like I'm listening to it for the first time.) Not voting for it here but I'm pretty sure I like it more than a large majority of songs in the contest.

lixAxil and Eleganza are both awesome. The first still gets me really pumped whenever I hear it, and I'm super pumped that it's finally in a contest. Aurora's Theme is okay, but I think there was better CoL music last year. Kolima Forest reminds me of MGS... Not bad. I think this Halo song is better than some others that have been in the contest, but it's still not that good. I don't like Ill Omen.

lixAxil is a song I don't really consider all that great relatively speaking compared to the Umineko soundtrack as a whole. It feels like something I should instead be hearing in some mid-2000s Newgrounds flash game, and I can't say I'm particularly nostalgic for that kind of music nowadays. This is probably my least favourite song that this composer did for Umineko, actually. ruriair which also made it in is likely second-least, too. They were better off with their more orchestral stuff imho, this just feels like a mediocre -45 song ripoff. THAT SAID, it still practically gets a bye here because Aurora's theme actively bored me.

Ah right, speaking of -45, Chaos Code, huh? This song's definitely not one of their contributions to the soundtrack, but it's still pretty nice. I'm often pretty torn on how to feel about it since it usually gets some "unfortunate" bracket placement and beats at least one song I care more about than it, but it's not that bad really. Which is good, since the other song here... isn't , really. About the only actually positive thing I can say about Kolima Forest is that it's pretty acceptable BGM, and I've heard DS games with soundtracks that sound very similar to it so I guess it was "ahead of its time"?

Halo's main theme always manages to be better than I remember it being. Weird. An Ill Omen got a very rough draw here. You could even say things look quite ominous for it.

wow, two in a span of three posts. I never considered CoL to be pretentious, and I rather liked its battle system as a unique spin on the ATB formula. I supported Aurora's because I like the soundtrack in general, though I'll admit I would have picked a different track...otoh, Pilgrims on a Long Journey didn't do any better, and the battle themes have that epic chorus thing going that I suppose could be construed as pretentious.

Seconding that the Eleganza video needs to be about half as long and that literally any other Golden Sun song could've done better than Kolima Forest, though
