Aren't they a little more powerful than a mayor? Are these governors holding a veto power over a Republican legislature? I don't follow all the states, so I don't know
The NJ governor is absolutely more powerful than other government officials. We have a rare ability to do line item vetos, which means instead of just sending something back and vetoing an entire bill, they can just pull out stuff they don't like and send it off. NJ governor is a big deal.
Idk about Virginia. And Mamdani is a great win, but a lot of his policies will rely on the governor to assist. He very well could be stymied on his ideas.
