Why don't they build their data centers near the sea so they can use seawater instead?saltwater corrodes everything it touches
Dumb question, but why does AI even need water?
Dumb question, but why does AI even need water?AI relies on intense computing power; the water is to cool the data centers.
to keep the computers cool
AI generation takes ALOT of power
it also takes alot of graphics cards (which is why they are so expensive now do to scarcity)
AI relies on intense computing power; the water is to cool the data centers.
Ok, I guess that makes sense, but then why do they need to keep using up so much per day? I mean, its not like the water goes bad. Couldnt they just cycle it to a tank to cool off and then reuse it? Are they really just wasting it when the water gets hot and then getting new water?
these things have to constantly runThis combined with freshwater contamination and further rising sea water means humanity will likely be seeing a sharp decline in the future so the machines can keep going
and keep in mind we are only talking ONE data center at the moment
more are going to get built
I guess there's going to be big money in desalination soon.
Its funny. Decades of cautionairy tales about jumping into technology and how it could be dangerous for humanity.COVID economic boom made that not matter. Line went up too much and they don't want it to come down ever again, even if blood is required.
Not a word of it was listened to.

It's due for a crash soon. Nobody likes it anymore, and the trough of disillusionment/Gartner Hype Cycle is well past the peak.
AI is just NFTs in slow motion. It will crash/be gone within the next few years and we'll be on to the next nonsensical thing that burns down the amazon rainforest.

I assume it's for cooling? Maybe these data centers should be required to have large scale water storage that once filled, can be recycled and reused on site. That's basically how it's already done. It's not exactly new, how do people think YouTube manages their ungodly amount of servers? Hundreds of trailer reuploads and 30 hour long music videos don't come without a cost but it's misleading to say that all the water they use goes away forever.
If AI does one good thing it might be getting the US back on track on finding alternatives to fossil fuels. It is actively doing the opposite!
Hopefully. It just takes up a lot of electricity.Listen to the album Power Windows (1985), by Rush, and read the lyrics.
We really need to keep building more and more power generation
Why does it seem like techbros never push anything good
