Semi related any of you seen the newest one, you liked? Many of you really like, director gunn? Have not seen much of his stuff. Shout out to Tom welling he was great but guessing if everybody polled, supe fans he would not make top 4.

He's pretty much the default Superman look in my head.

I have not really watched any Superman movies though. I've always found Superman kinda lame as a kid and never got past that.

Yes. Cavill had the potential if he wasn't saddled with scripts that weren't representative of the character. There were moments in the theatrical version of Justice League where you could see (they were Whedon scenes, not Snyder) but overall it is and always has been Reeve (even if the films weren't always the quality he deserved). I did enjoy the new Superman but I still don't think he was on Reeve's level.

Which Superman movies have you seen? Like 4 reeve ones, 5 more , without him? Did you like Smallville, very underappreciated show, it never did big ratings.

Yeah good point. When most people think how superman looks now, they think of Reeve, he absolutely killed that role. I heard he was very dismayed he was known for almost nothing else. He was like a Shakespearean actor.

Absolutely. I'm excited to see the new flick this weekend, but I'm not expecting it to unseat Reeve as the gold standard for live action Superman. He was just so charming and earnest in a way no one else has been able to match.
The food here is terrible. My steak was so tough it attacked my coffee and the coffee was too weak to defend itself.
I'd say so...

Reeve is the gold standard, in my mind.

The dude from Superman and Lois deserves his spot in these conversations, though. I had such low expectations going into that show, but he blew me away.
Tom Welling and George Reeves were on TV, not films. Or are we looking at all live action, not just on the big screen?

Best Superman, best Clark Kent and everything in between.

I haven't seen every live-action Superman project (specifically the new movie and Superman and Lois), but out of all the ones I have watched, Reeve was the best. His first two Superman films are iconic, and he's a significant reason why.

If you ask me to craft the perfect mental image of what Superman looks like in real life, my brain will immediately spit out Christopher Reeve.

I know part of it is because he was the Superman I remembered from my childhood, but he basically IS Superman for me ( and Clark Kent - his Clark was iconic as well). And I've judged every single Superman since by his standard (and most of them have failed for one reason or another).

The only other one who's ever been close is Henry Cavill, which is why I feel sad that he was given absolute dogshit to work with. I can only imagine that in an alternate universe where Cavill got to be in well-written movies that were properly directed, he'd be the most iconic Superman. Alas, we don't live in that world.

He's in good company though. For both Doctor Who and James Bond, I'd definitely say that my favorite actors as the character also tend to have some of the dirt-worst scripts, so they're never appreciated as much as they should be.

I'm pretty sure all the good ones tend to study his performance when preparing for the role.

That's why Reeve is the default vision of Superman. He absolutely killed it as both Superman and Clark Kent, and actually convinced us that he could maintain a secret identity by just wearing glasses and changing his stance and mannerisms.
