.....chain in the u.s....., if you are a worker and a customer swings at you first or whoever started it or whatever happened , that you are never to hit them back ?

I think legally you can hit back but corporate might not like it. Cops will leave you alone but your boss will fire you

It's a liability to the company since you're on company time.

You're allowed to defend yourself, but they don't mean fight back. And before the customer attacks you, you can't do anything.

I worked at a major retailer chain in high school and that was not a policy but it was also a really long time ago. I was told not to stop shoplifters though.

At my job, it's you can only hit them back if they keep hitting you
