Watching a youtube meteorologist stream some of these, and he has been repeatedly wondering why it is taking so long for tornado watches to get updated to warnings, or for normal warnings to get updated to a PDS or Tornado Emergency.

The one 1.5-2 mile wide one that hit Plavka or whatever that town's name is wasn't updated to Tornado Emergency until about 5 minutes before it reached the town. Fortunately, there was a local awareness and many residents had evacuated to a stronger building ahead of time (one which additionally happened to be in the half of the town that the tornado didn't hit).

There's a smug part of me that's satisfied by waking up at 4 AM to a tornado warning blaring from my gf's phone, looking at the radar, and being able to confidently tell her there probably isn't actually one and the NWS is just being cautious, or that it'll miss us easily
