I'm doing a replay of Doom Eternal. I never really paid much attention to the codex entries during my first playthrough but I'm getting much more into it this time.

The DOOM Eternal intro goes hard and the rip and tear stuff adds more flavor to what you're doing, but the actual lore stuff is just kinda... Over the top. Which I know is the point but you can be over the top while still engagingly interesting instead of so over the top you're bordering on jumping the shark

I don't know jack about the lore. It's fun though.
Trying is the first step towards failure, so just dont give it a shot and you cant dissapoint.

I think it's interesting but not something I focus on while playing... Usually just learn snippets of it other places...

The only Doom game I've played is the 2016 one. I didn't finish it, but I did like the story.

No, but I loved how 2016 handled it. Perfect for Doom. Eternal was a big turnoff despite the gameplay being really good.

I really enjoyed the back story told through the codex in Eternal, about Argent Dnur and the Sentinels and the Maykrs, etc. which is why I'm really excited about TDA and to play through some of that back story.

But the way Eternals story was told was just trash. Nothing made any sense. Especially since apparently there's a huge time jump between 2016 and Eternal. Then all of a sudden your hunting priests. And the whole thing with ARC and Dr. Samuel and the Ancient God DLC I really did not care for.

Still an amazing game though. And looks like I'll love TDA as well. Will be an amazing trilogy.

Some of it is cool, but generally no. The Dark Lord stuff in TAG2 was horrible.

Agreed, 2016 gave you enough to get the context behind what was happening, but you could just as easily ignore it all.
Time is a funny thing, you know? I guess in the big picture of my life, you were only a blip. But oftentimes, those "blips" make the biggest impacts.
