Though Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal are a lot better. Those games are what really got me hooked.

Never played the original, but played a couple of the other PS2 ones (Commando and Arsenal) only recently. I was surprised by how good they are.

I like all of them. I even enjoyed the All 4 One game that I played through co-op with a friend. It was great but heavily criticized. I know a lot of people like the PS2 games but but I thought the PS3 had two absolute bangers in Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time.

Seriously just a great series. Super fun, colorful, and funny. I just wish there was more challenge to them. They are too easy.

Love the original trilogy, Going Commando is my favourite. The satire and humour of the trilogy is spot on and sadly they removed the consumerism angle and innuendos from later games.

The PS4 remake is not great, especially when you compare it to the original PS2. Tons of levels are missing and Ratchet's character has been changed so much that he doesn't even feel like the same person any more.

Ratchet is supposed to be an unlikeable dick in the first game, it's part of his character arc and you see him become a hero at the end. But he's already a kid with a heart of gold in the remake.

Yeah, the remake fucked the game up bad. They got rid of the light Metroidvania aspects to it. They based the story on the movie, but they cut out a lot of the story from the movie, so the story in general just doesn't make sense. I also didn't love that they turned Drek from an intimidating Lex Luthor-type into a used car salesman. And I especially hated that they had Nefarious upstage him in the final act . I flatout do not understand Insomniac's love for Nefarious.

It also never, ever, ever shuts the fuck up. It has so much "witty" banter that it can overlap on itself. By far the most baffling decision in the game was to give Qwark two lines for swimming and then have him use them every. Single. Time. You start getting low on oxygen.

The series in general has been pretty kiddified which is just weird to me. Rift Apart was fun, but the story was pretty puerile power of friendship nonsense. The thing is that the gameplay doesn't really match the target audience of the story; I'm a grown man and there were things that I found challenging in that game. That's especially true of the remake, sections of that game are just brutal.

Great series, and it's a tad underrated.

He's just so one note to me. I liked him in his first game, but I've been pretty meh on him ever since.

I will admit Rift Apart did something a little interesting with him, at least.

Played through it probably every 3-6 months when the PS2 was still a modern console.

The series never interested me as a kid but I played the trilogy years later on the Vita and I enjoyed it even though the games felt repetitive.

I mean even back in the first PS2 game he is a bit standoffish, but he warms up fast to Clank. This notion that Ratchet is a real asshole that takes time to fix that is not really true.

He loves to do the Spider-Man thing though and make wisecracks and jokes some that could be cruel. The PS4 remake does tone him down a bit though, I just think some massively overrate the difference. This coming from a guy that played the series since Going Commando came out as a fairly new title back in the PS2 days, I went back and grabbed the first game after loving that one.

^Ratchet isn't a dick to Clank right off, but he is pretty self interested throughout the first half of the game and mostly goes along with Clank just because Clank can run his ship.

Then when Qwark betrays them, he does blame Clank for it and starts actively being a dick to him while not caring about Drek at all.

I was looking up Neil Flynn, the actor who played the Janitor in Scrubs, because I saw a clip where he looked really skinny and was wondering if he'd been sick.

Turns out he played the Plumber and Skidd McMarx in the original trilogy.
