But I think Kamala ultimately wins

We can only hope she wins. We don't want a repeat of 2016.

Sigh, same.
I do think that Harris will win, but the anxiety was hitting me hard yesterday. This is too close for comfort.
What a fuddy duddy.
It's the collective PTSD from 2016.

All of us are feeling some anxiety over this but it shows that we don't take elections for granted and now how aware we are about how 40% of the country votes.
what, seriously

I'm really hopeful that Kamala will win, too. She's received so much support in such a short time and is likely the reason for most, if not all, of the record breaking early voting. She's also managed to get over a billion dollars from supporters for the campaign, which is another record on her part. And she's been way up in the polls since starting, which honestly probably doesn't really mean too much since you can never truly trust those polls anyway, but they're saying that the orange turd is suddenly up in them. I really can't see how he'd suddenly gain so much support after watching him basically take a dementia-induced nose dive over the last few week, especially during the debate where she absolutely destroyed him. But Americans are pretty freaking stupid when it comes to politics, so who knows for sure. But I really am hopeful that her supporters will come out in droves to vote her into office. Here's to hoping.
Jack! Jack! He's my psycho maniac! <3
I cannot see a reality where my existence is allowed without restrictions in the next four years if she doesn't win, so yeah kind of putting all my emotional chips into that one.

You can't change anything about the election and the events leading up to and after it other than casting a vote.

Just vote and take your mind off it. There's no point being stressed over something you have no control over.
I think she wins too, but I hate how close it is and how Trump even has a chance at winning. Pretty much anyone else in Trump shoes would be getting lambasted nationally and well on their way to losing all 50 states, but for whatever reason so many Americans have become brain dead zombies that still go bat for him all while so much of media coddles him.

Would it even be remotely plausible he wins and manages to change the law to stay the president longer than 4 years?

I've heard many ppl bitching about that. But it can't be that GD simple right? right?
Repubs and 5he mainstream media are pumping out polls favoring Trump voters and they only manage to make this seem like a dead heat. Kamala has this in the bag.

All governments essentially rely on the ruling members to voluntarily give up their power.

When you get a despot, the constitution only matters as much as youre willing to enforce it by force.

He should not have been able to do any of the things that he has done. And it seems that he keeps getting away with his illegal shit. However he does not seem healthy he will step down before 4 years are over and we will have that empty suit JD Vence as president it will be fucking James Buchanan all over again .

The 3 branches of government are meant to be able to check each other to prevent just a massive change like that from happening without the consent of all 3 branches. But with the SC ruling that the President can basically do whatever they want as long as its an executive order, I dont trust that the Legislative branch would be able to stop them from doing so (since Trump will no doubt try to have any dissenters in there jailed or executed under one of those orders, with the SC already showing they cant be trusted to keep him in check). And thats if the Dems were to control both rhe House and Senate. Its likely that the Republicans will have control over one of them.

He's guaranteed to do this. He won't give up power this time. If he gets in it's over.
I suspect that no matter who wins we're going to see a violence. I was at the county clerk to renew my CPL the other day and there was a line of rednecks getting their license for the first time.

They're prepping for something. And since they're bothering with a license, they think that whatever they're going to do, it won't be considered a crime.
As much as I want Trump to lose, Im also worried about Harris winning. Because Trump is not going to accept his loss gracefully and there will be more violence and death as a result of it.

That said, there is logic to the idea that spending energy on things out of your control is fruitless. As long as there are constructive things that are within your control in the meantime to spend that energy on instead. In both this case and mine, focus on preparing for the worst.
If something is hard, you weren't meant to do it.
There's also the possibility that even if Harris wins in a landslide, the Electoral College will ignore it, be undemocratic and hand the victory to Trump anyways.

Surely anything that qualifies as a "landslide" would be more than the margin for EC fuckery, right?

It's more likely for the Supreme Court to simply refuse to swear her in, which is something I can't see happening either.

Honestly, and I don't mean this in a bad way, avoid the internet. That's likely the only reason you're dooming. Trump has only lost voters since 2016, he hasn't gained any. And he killed off many of them by ignoring Covid. He can't even vote for himself since he's a convicted felon.

That won't happen unless the GOP actually falls apart and the Dems split into two new parties - the progressive and the establishment.

Even then, there are some loopholes going on here that surely the founding fathers should have seen coming. Being able to pardon oneself, for starters. Hell the presidential pardon as a concept in itself shits all over the concept of separation of powers.

Precedent was set. Remember last time when the conversation was "Trump isn't going to leave quietly" and his cultists responding "of course he will, tinfoil hat lefties?"

Even if his cultists throw another tantrum it won't accomplish anything. The authorities will be ready. Because it's happened before. (That said, people will get hurt, and that's unfortunate.)

The authorities at the White House will definitely be armed to the teeth when Trump loses (again).

That isnt to say that some of those right wing authorities wont let the protesters in (again). And several dipshits will lose their lives.

AOCs policies are better.

The best move for Kamala rn would be to federally legalize cannabis. If she doesnt do it, AOC will.

My knowledge of amendments is iffy, but if someone has been elected to the office of vice president can't they only serve one subsequent term as president? Or is that only for those who inherit the office in the event of the president's death?

Edit: Yeah, nevermind me. Otherwise Biden would never have been in the running for 2024 in the first place.

Already voted but I'm just in a constant state of depression over the fact that Trump is as popular as he is after EVERYTHING that's happened during and since his administration.

The more U.S. history I've studied, the more I've come to the realization that the reason our government is setup the way that it is is because the Founding Fathers basically said "Fuck it, we'll figure this shit out later" and told future generations to work out a better system.

There is almost literally nobody who votes on marijuana, it doesn't move the needle at all.

Also, the President cannot just "federally legalize cannabis" via executive order. If AOC tried to primary Harris in 2028, she would, straight up, wreck her political career and make herself persona non grata in the party. She'd too smart for that, she'll wait for 2032 at least

That's why they say the document was meant to be subsequently updated I guess. Just... kinda gotta get around to that. For starters regarding the massive increase in power of firearms.

All that being said, IF Trump manages to win, and I say this as someone non-religious, I pray for the safety of those another Trump term would threaten. Just in case, PLEASE be safe out there folks.
