Is the Madden curse still a thing?

Not lately. The number usually represents the season before it. So Madden 2025 is for the 2024 season.

So looking back the last few years.

Madden 2020 - Patrick Mahomes - 2019 Season - Chiefs won the SB
Madden 2021 - Lamar Jackson - 2020 Season - Ravens went 11-5
Madden 2022 - Mahomes and Brady - 2021 Season - KC went 12-5, TB went 13-4
Madden 2023 - John Madden in tribute to his passing
Madden 2024 - Josh Allen - 2023 Season - Buffalo went 11-6

None of those players got injuries that made them lose more than a game.

I think the curse is over.
You gotta laugh. That is the one thing at the end of your life you will not wish you did less of.

My son's Birthday runs almost parallel to Madden being released, so my in-laws buy it for him every year.

He does online franchises with his friends, and offline franchise rebuilds

He has yet to spend a dime on any of these games.

In order to play any versions of the game? No.

Even MUT (Madden Ultimate Team), you can play the game for free.

Do I need to spend money to build my Ultimate Team? No, Madden NFL users do not need to spend money in order to build an Ultimate Team. There are free-to-play options through solo objectives or by competing in online head-to-head play that can help toward redeeming rewards to acquire new player cards.
You gotta laugh. That is the one thing at the end of your life you will not wish you did less of.
"free to play" so yes its jammed with predatory practices to get kids to spend tons of money

so yes as i said the athletes who sell their likeness that makes this possible for EA

should be called out for selling their likeness

You have no idea how being part of a Player's Association works, do you?

It's OK to admit that you don't. No one will fault you for it.

Part of being in the PA is being compensated for the use of their likeness, yes.

Do 8-12 minutes of research on a subject before you comment on it. It'll make things a lot easier for you.

In the meantime, no one tell them where they make the jerseys and T-Shirts with the player's names on them. Their head may explode.

They don't actually have a choice. The NFL basically owns them.
It says right here in Matthew 16:4 "Jesus doth not need a giant Mecha."

OK. So now that you corrected yourself, back on topic...

The PA is the one that brokers the deals, not the players themselves.

It would be like if you worked for Burger King as a cashier and I yelled at you becasue the Franchise Owner buys your uniforms from overseas using cheap child labor.

You gotta laugh. That is the one thing at the end of your life you will not wish you did less of.

Do they do that BS thing where they force you to use in game currency that has a mismatching amount compared to the stuff you can buy? (also, is there a name for this practice)?
For the currency or for the uneven purchasing amounts?

The former is premium currency (I think), the latter is just basic predatory practice but doesn't have a specific term that I know.

So the games aren't all that predatory? I legit have no idea since I don't play sports games. But like, they're not like gatcha games? For Madden itself, there's only one gameplay version that has any sort of "currency" and it is very easy to:

1) Play that version without spending a dime. I used to play it and never spent any money. I just got tired of the "sweats" that played online and stopped playing.

2) Play any other other versions of the game. Franchise Mode, Online vs Friends, Create a Player, etc.
You gotta laugh. That is the one thing at the end of your life you will not wish you did less of.
The surprise when you come back to your shitpost that you thought no one would post in and see nearly 50 posts.

Yeah, players sign with the NFLPA when they are drafted (get them while they are young) then they pretty much own their likeness. Can't fault the players, can fault the system.

Privileged players like Marvin Harrison Jr. knew to avoid this and did not sign on his draft day.

Yeah, they kinda dug a hole by calling the 25th anniversary Madden "Madden 25".

But they figured enough time passed where people wouldn't be confused, considering that version came out in 2013.
You gotta laugh. That is the one thing at the end of your life you will not wish you did less of.
They could have easily avoided this if they had called the 2013 game
