It was a raid boss that was intended to be basically unkillable, though it wasn't made outright invincible, it was just absurdly powerful
About 200 people formed a raid to kill it. It was an insanely long fight, and just as they were about to kill it... the devs despawned it. You could imagine the rage over that. They apologized and put it back, then they managed to kill it finally, after another 3 hour fight.
It soured a lot of the dedicated fanbase that was still with the game at the time, and pretty much was the final blow
