Not one of them tried to stop this
Humans are very good at not trying to stop bad things from happening. We call the ones that at least try "heroes" a lot of the time. That guy who decided to break protocol and NOT launch his submarine's nuclear missiles in a situation where protocol said he should. The people who TRIED to stop WW1 from happening. They tried. The latter were unsuccessful, but you are here because the former tried to stop a bad thing... and had the sole power to do so, and was right about it.
As for the rest of humanity aside from the occasional guys who actually try? Well, some of them settle for "make it just a little better" and help clean up parks here and there. Nothing wrong with that of course.
But yeah, people pretty much didn't try to stop the Weimer Republic from turning into what it did until, and even when it was too late. Plenty of people did the right and in that time and place, heroic thing of protecting people who would otherwise have been taken away. But no one actually stood up. It took half the then-modern world ganging up on them to even half-fix things, and even then they waited for several nations to fall before they actually took it seriously.
