I counter Persona 5 september with the intro of Persona 5. The first several hours drag even on fast forward and you have like 0 control

Its probably one of the biggest walls ive encountered when trying to replay a game.

not really a level, but the sheer amount of backtracking and high encounter rate in legend of dragoon makes replaying it a drag.

i recently did a replay on the ps4 port, and I wish they added the "skip encounters" option like they did for the FFVII ps4 port (not remake, original ps1 game)
?

The Fade

I went through DA:O again last year and did the Fade, and wondered why everyone hated it? It wasn't very hard! It was so short! Apparently I forgot that isn't the Fade part being referenced.
Take me down from the ridge where the summer ends
And watch the city spread out just like a jet's flame
At first I was gonna say Monstro in KH1.

Then I was going to add the pirate ship (Peter Pan world).

Then I was going to add Deep Jungle.

Then Wonderland, and Halloween Town. And Atlantica.

Then it kinda hit me that I pretty much hate the whole game, don't I?
There's a difference between canon and not-stupid.
Can't say they prevent me from replaying them, but these levels I always dread having to go through.

- The Fade and Deep Roads in DA:O
- Just about all of the open world stuff in DA:I
- The side content in Mass Effect (due to the open world areas), specifically the ones that take you to the mountainous planets where controlling the Mako becomes very frustrating (I know I can just skip it, but the completionist in me makes it difficult to do so).
- Not a level per se, but the Triforce hunt (and the Tingle stuff that goes along with it) in Windwaker.
- The open world of Elden Ring. Love the game, but I prefer the smaller, interconnected levels of DS1 and even the linearity of DS3 more than ER's open world.

There's probably more I could think of but those are the only ones that come to mind at the moment.

Edit: Forgot about the opening of KoToR 2. The combination of Peragus and Telos have actually prevented me from replaying it a few times.

KotOR 2 - Peragus

I never minded Peragus. Telos on the other hand, ugh.

And to answer the topic title, my vote is for an early Xcom 2 mission. You have to rescue a vip from a cell whilst there are bad guys around. The kicker is that you can't evac and after you reach the vip, you have to wait three turns and the enemy drops reinforcements every turn. It's too easy to get overwhelmed especially since it's a mission early on before you are geared and leveled up.

Shut your BF28/9 sound hole and listen up.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice? Strike three.

Anything involving Goron Rolling in Majora's Mask. The memory of trying to get through that section of the final dungeon on my first playthrough still makes my blood boil a little. And the last time I tried playing, even the Goron Races were so infuriating that I just plain gave up on the game shortly after winning it, so time has definitely not been kind to this. If there was ever an otherwise-great game that was ruined for me personally by one shitty mechanic, it's that.

And of course Shadows of the Empire - Imperial Sewers deserves a mention (fucking nightmare fuel dianogas).
Simple questions deserve long-winded answers that no one will bother to read.
The uncharted worlds from the OG Mass Effect, though thankfully theyre a heckuva lot more bearable and actually somewhat fun to explore in the Legendary Edition thanks to BioWare retooling the game mechanics as well as how the Mako handles to the point of adding in a lateral boost to help get it over some of the more pain in the neck hilly terrains.

Tbh, I've never once had trouble with the archers. You just run straight up the buttress and hit the one on the right once to make him fall off the ledge. I don't think I've ever even been hit by them.

But I barely even died in Blighttown, so it is weird what some find hard and not others.

The worst part about Blighttown is the framerate drop that happens down there.
Usually the start of games. When I replay a game I want to go in like an hour into it and skip all the slow parts
Not a level, but the entire mission sequences with Valentine and that annoying journalist in Fallout 4 always make me rethink doing another playthrough.

Never played the Wii U version of the game, but the mind nunblingly boring triforce quest at the end of Wind Waker. I know a lot of people defend it but i can't take it, to me you're just doing mindless repetitive actions close to the end of the game to artifically extend the playtime.

And it is a shame because WW has a great ending sequence.

I get the game had a rushed development to launch in december 2002, and they cut some dungeons, but this is such blatant filler, lol.

You think that is bad? A game bug made it so doing coop Clinger Winger (the second to the last stage) made it impossible to do it because the second player couldn't move.

The stage before that, Rat Race, is ridiculously fun in coop since only one of you has to do the race and the other person can punch the rat.
I will rule the world, and find that truly good cup of coffee.
DMC5 the entire campaign, it's ass. Tower is where it's at.

Took me 9 hours worth of tutorials to finally reach the point where the game let me explore the first castle freely.

Decide to do so, and upon entering I'm immediately thrown into another tutorial. Make it make sense, Atlus.

I rarely sit down and replay stuff apart from a few favorites that are pretty snappy and don't have any ugh moments. But there are times when I'll go back and make another attempt at a game I fell off before.

In a general sense, any game where the start is long, unskippable, and doesn't let you do anything but dialogue is something that puts me off very quickly. Persona 5 that a couple people have mentioned is one of the worse ones and I dread the intro segments when it's time for me to go back for Royal.

I guess the closest thing from the specific standpoint of this topic would be Boomer Kuwanger's stage. Never did like it and it feels built on annoyance.
The Fade in Dragon Age Origins.
Frost man:Megaman 8
Planet Smolg in Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando. I hated using the Levitator, as it had barely enough fuel to reach some of the platforms to progress the level. I got stuck there for hours trying to make it through the semi-final stretch.
