So many things I'd like to do but my joints don't want to cooperate and the heavy medication for it just makes me feel sick half the time

Old people are statistically the happiest. Maybe not when they're in hospice care but after retirement people seem to go through a happy phase.
This is where cool people write stuff.

Yeah, in most cases it's chronic pain. In the case of elderly widows you may have some depression thrown into the mix as well. In the west, suicide is actually more common amongst the elderly than it is among young people.
