i have 3 more hives that are ok but since i dont know what it is that got into the one i have to assume they're at risk too..

i can only think of some sort of hornet but i haven't seen any this year.

If you live in BC or Washington near the border it could be murder hornets? I remember recently those regions have been working together to try to eliminate them before they get entrenched.
The commercial says that Church isn't for perfect people, I guess that's why I'm an atheist.

i was going to yell at TC For letting them die but it cant be helped against one of those japanese hornets (they're nasty as hell, decimator of hives) no protection for the european honey bee.

Damn that sucks. It's probably not murder hornets, but who knows? I saw a video of a Japanese beekeeper that had a hive built that protected his bees from murder hornets and other predators like that. He then set traps for them as well. It was pretty fascinating to watch.

Yeah, I saw the same video. It's definitely not something North American beekeepers have prepared for in the slightest and on top of that our bees don't have natural defences that the Japanese bees have. If I recall it only takes a couple hornets to completely destroy a hive.

But yeah, it's probably not murder hornets but if he lives in southern BC or northern Washington it's not necessarily something he can dismiss out of hand. They recently got over via hiding out on shipping crates (at least that's the theory) and both governments have been trying to exterminate them before it's too late.

cus I grow a lot of stuff that relies on bees to survive, and the modern world isn't really nice to bees

nah i doubt it was that, I'm in michigan and the ones that died are carniolan bees (type of western european honey bee).
i have mason bees too, but those aren't a hive insect and are really solitary/don't like to interact with other bees. they're better pollinators than the carniolans, even though they don't produce honey.

the good news is that my pumpkins sprouted today, so that's cool.
still pissed, I decided to start hunting for imposter bees or hornets, and found some carpenter bees in my wood pile, but they were all males so they couldn't have done any damage to my hives (male carpenter bees dont have a stinger, only the females do)

This actually makes me sad

We had a swarm take up residence in a nearby tree and they died because they didnt have a queen.
He's all alone through the day and night.

it can happen but not always, many of the bees in this hive have been absent the past few days so I'm wondering if they abandoned it or there is some sort of mites or something. but, i also found about two dozen dead workers in the hive, normally any dead bees are outside of the hive because they will get removed by the other bees

i really hope its not a sickness..

idk what happened, like half is missing, queen is dead and a lot of workers and drones are dead in the colony.
i have very, very small colonies, of around 10k bees per colony in 6-frame boxes, and the frames are not typically full (a 6-frame could prob hold like 12k-15k bees before being too crowded), but not empty either. this time? two empty. I'm worried.
my others seem okay though, and the bee house for the mason bees seems undisturbed as well.

i want to believe they left due to some reason but the queen died so i dont think thats the case. ugh.

Get some Japanese bees. They don't produce as much honey but they can kill hornets by luring them into the hive and overheating it to death.
