Looks great, sadly no gameplay. Loved the assassin blade at the end.

With Shogun being a huge hit, this seems like good timing to release the trailer.

Yeah was hoping for some gameplay but looks pretty cool

Looks good. I am excited, even if there was no gameplay.
I think this is gonna sell really well. Its a setting that lots of people like and want plus you have some cool protags. Im definitely excited for this
She took pity on me, horizontally, but most likely because of my band
Reminder, they only just last year stopped updating Valhalla. Like 3 full years of content updates, and most were free. In fact I think they only had like 3 DLC's despite adding like 10 or 12 new content updates.

The AC devs know how to keep a single player game relevant long after it releases, unlike most studios.

That statement on no game in Japan was from a long time ago. Most of the people working on AC games weren't working on them back then. The new team just seems to try and make the games seem as "cool" as possible. Origins was the last game where it actually felt like you played an assassin (even though it started to have weird RPG elements such as stealth kills not always working if you weren't a high enough level).

Odyssey - Play as a badass spartan
Valhalla - Play as a badass viking
Shadows - Play as a badass samurai

I wonder which episode of the Deadliest Warrior the developers will watch next to decide what you play as in the next game.

I think it's more the setting than the character. That's why I want a Mayan or Incan setting.

hopefully this doesn't feel as bloated as some of the other games, and that the enemy AI is improved so that stealth feels more fun.

Two protagonists. One is a ninja, and the other is a samurai.

I like that you can freely switch between the two for most of the missions. That's nice.

I personally would have liked it if it were similar to GTA5 where each character has their own specific storyline that intertwines with the other character.

Syndicate did the whole play either character thing and I found myself never playing as Jacob.

Cinematic looks good, but that's how it is with most Ubisoft games. I just hope the game is good because I like the setting and want them to continue the series in it. It would suck to ruin such a good concept.
I'm expecting gameplay will just be more of the same old, but in Japan.
don't care

The original was the best one. The blend mechanism was kind of clunky but other than that I loved it. Yes even doing the random odd jobs to get the actual story mission was great I thought.

From the sounds of it, some plot beats will still require you to be one or the other.

Yasuke is constantly brought up in samurai pop culture in the last decade or two actually.

the most recent one being the Netflix show.

The splinter cell mechanics make me very excited for this. Also can see it expanding into the Tokugawa era.
Looks sick! Im one of the few it seems that is a fan of the series for the most part, although I got burned out and never finished Valhalla. I skipped Mirage entirely, but Im excited for this one.

I don't think anyone thinks Assassins Creed 1 is the best. Not even the kids of the developers.

At least if you said AC2 or Brotherhood, it'd make sense.

The reason I like it is because it actually feels like a stealth game. Like you don't have a health bar in AC1. You have a synchronization bar. You recover it by being hidden cause nobody sees Altair. You can't kill someone in broad daylight. You'll get caught. You have to follow them until they're alone or in the shadows.

AC2 comes along and now you're basically playing a super hero that takes health potions to recover from injuries.

You can absolutely kill someone in broad daylight. Two of the main assassinations in the 1st game are blatantly out in the open with Abu'l Nuqoud and Majd Addin. Besides, once you get counter you can legitimately just standstill holding block waiting for the enemies to attack you. Unless I'm remembering wrong the sync bar also refills as long as you don't get hit in combat

I was talking about the side missions that you have to do before the story. The story missions by large don't care how you do it although getting caught makes it harder to escape or sometimes your target will run away.

If you stab someone in daylight the crowd will start reacting and you'll get caught and you'll have to repeat the mission. If you wait for them to go into the shade and then do it you'll get away with it.

I agree, I felt like AC1 had the good bones of a real cool historical stealth game. I also enjoyed doing the same side missions to flesh out the plan for a story assassination. The only other game in the series that seemed to get a bit back to that was, ironically, Assassin's Creed Unity. The major assassinations and finding new intel to open up alternate routes was good. Not so much everything else.

I also liked Syndicate but they went really nuts with the upgrade system and level stuff. Wasn't a big fan of that. Swapping protags was nice though

The new games still have that. You kill dudes and leave them on benches, assassinate them and hide them in bushes, piles of hay, or behind curtains.

The only thing the new games somewhat abandoned, but quasi brought it back for a Valhalla DLC, was assassination setups. That was always incredibly fun, but a small miss step fucks everything up and half the time you go from a well planned assassination to a fuck it run and gun until the target is dead. That's also an issue for the current games too.

They really should make a mainline AC game again that has a big city as the focus. Tenochtitlan would be awesome. Early 20th century Chicago or New York would also be cool, but you would have to think of a good way to adopt the gameplay to the more modern era.

AC1 is probably the only game in the series that has a focused vision and a decent story.

After 3, the series basically gave up trying to be art and strictly became yearly content drops. We did get 4 out of it though, which is a great game. Shit story, but great game.

They clarified it was required to go online to install, its not required to play past that point apparently. They didnt clarify if its a security feature or the game is just massive and cant fit otherwise or anything like that.
