There's always been subsets of people laying claim to the term feminist that intersect at the hatred of lesbians and trans people. It would not shock me at all if Rowling is in that overlap already but knows that publicly attacking gay people is a step too far at this point. There's at least a large enough minority of the population that hate trans people that she feels safe sharing her opinions on that.
