If the game's sub-60FPS it looks nice.
Thanks for reading!
I hate blur lol

Bloom can work in some contexts.

Motion blur has its place when it's not used to excess.

But depth of field HAS to be a joke that your average graphics whore got wooshed on.
There's a difference between canon and not-stupid.
The problem with depth of field is how it can focus on a single pixel crosshair, resulting in the view warping in and out of focus as said pixel passes over different distances. If there's a pole or post somewhere in the distance you'll get radically shifting levels of focus if you pass over it. It's jarring and takes away from the experience.

That and how does the game know what I'm looking at anyway?

Kind of a vague and ambiguous term that can have many different usages and possible meanings in games. Back in the old school days when it was used to create an amazing sense of speed I absolutely loved it. But blurring things as you move your camera around as it is often used now is just unnecessary but does not bother me at all.

Motion blur exists to hide that your game is not really optimized well

The last time I played a game and didn't mind the motion blur was DMC4
ChrisTaka's not-alt
Chromatic aberration is the one that really gets me. Its purpose is to actively make the game look worse because of some misguided attempt at emulating flaws in actual camera lenses. Why the fuck would you want that?

Nope. Motion Blur and Vibration are the first two things I disable when starting a new game.

In first person games I don't mind a little motion blur. Usually I turn it off anyway. DoF on the other hand looks great and as far as I'm concerned is essential if the option exists.

As a Youtuber, I absolutely despise motion blur because it makes it impossible to get good action shots for thumbnails.

I still don't know what anti-aliasing does or what the other graphic settings do.
*flops*
Hell no.

Maybe in racing games, to get the feeling of speed a bit better across, but definitly not for some running.

I deactivate it as soon as I see the option for it.

Anti-Aliasing is pretty simple.

Because we are working with pixels, EVERY object is generally with a terrible sharp edge.

Anti-Aliasing is now softening that edge.

The image left is simple: The a is black, the background white, nothing in between. That gives you a sharp edge, and allows you to identify single pixel.

The image right is now using anti-aliasing, softening the edge with some grey gradient. The result is much smoother, and you wont be able to identify the pixel as good anymore, even if the resolution stays the same.

If you zoom in even more, you see how some originally solid black pixels became light grey:

I always wondered what antialiasing was too so thank you for explaining!

Your welcome.

Ofc, it's only the most simple case for simple stuff.

As soon as we are talking about the 3747 different techniques, in scenes with 2637 objects including transparancy, refraction and lightning into account, I also have no idea what happens on the GPU or screen anymore.

I just trust that they are sorted from "low quality" to "high quality" within the menu.

I remember Halo: Reach's beta's anti-aliasing had a weird issue that resulted in a faint ghost trailing effect, but specific to character models. I wonder why.

It hurt my eyes really bad in FF16, but for the most part I don't really notice it.

I can't stand motion blur. It's just an ugly way to cover for a bad frame rate.

Hell, it's hard for me to tell the difference these days between motion blur and dropped frames.

I like bloom

I'm a Taurus. Currently playing: Carol Reed Mystery Dead Drop & Oldschool Runescape. He/Him
motion blur is ok, bloom is realistic so I'm fine with it

DoF depends on hardware

It kills the framerate on console. It only works on PC when you got like 30jibs of RAM and i9 6.3GHZ processor.
"You're made of spare parts, aren't ya, bud?"
I like it in Crysis and GTA 4
love bloom lighting, never use Anti Aliasing.

Bloom and motion blur are the first two settings I turn completely off when I first play a game.
Shut your BF28/9 sound hole and listen up.

I always turn it off.
