Amy Lee was supposed to be the sole vocalist on the song. But given it was their first single, the record label didn't think the song having a female vocalist would be successful, so they hired a male vocalist who wasn't even in the band, and had them turn it into a duet.
Those "wake me up!" parts that are tacked on weren't meant to be in the track
