spiderman 1 and batman 2 or is it flipped?on this site, iirc spidey, 1. But this topic is all americans not just this site.
why did you bump this? the answer is no. it's batman.topic said of all americans, it might be superman
Superman was popular, but for movies, toys, merch, even comic books they sell really poorly and have been getting worse for 20 years now.at time of reeve movies he was huge. Those movies were huge.
its so bad s small game/comic store by my house stopped ordering new Superman titles because they dont sell, but he orders the 10 or more Batman titles each month.
Even back issues never sell for him at most stores. He just lost all his interest I guess

When characters like Batman lose, it's a reminder that behind everything they do they're still just a random guy at the end of the day(albeit an incredibly rich borderline superhuman one).

not on this site, obv., saw a poll and he was like 3rd or 4th. But among all americans or the world?

Superman's problem is that it's really hard to fix decades of him being essentially the undefeatable invincible bastion of what a super hero "should be," while the opinion on that has changed pretty hard over the years. He works better as a conflicted villain or side character these days.

But yes, it's all about the spectacle and punching the bad guys hard enough that they turn in to paste. Also side characters dying for dramatic effect, the more beloved the better.
The problem of course being that introspection doesnt sell super-hero media.
