Its high time we moved past constantly invoking Dustys legacy in every match Cody steps into. Sure, when The Rock threw down those lines it felt real, not as epic and unforgettable as Mama Rhodes, here's your belt ... pure gold. But now, its become a tired script. Every opponent Cody faces seems to recycle the same old Dusty narratives. Lets get more original and stop leaning on past legends to fuel the drama. Interestingly, Golddust rarely ever faced the same treatment, despite his peers having closer ties and longer acquaintance with Dusty.

What? Did you not watch his original WCW run in the early 90's? The reason he became Golddust was to get away from his father's shadow.

Too bad Christian isn't around, he would tell Cody exactly what's going on with Dusty.
Every day I wake up and promise I will be nice to everyone, then I deal with people at work and remember why that will never happen.
It's funny how they simultaneously abuse the Dusty references but miss opportunities to have his legacy boost storylines.

Cody's feuding with AJ Styles now and Styles is one of very few guys on the roster to have actually faced Dusty in a match. Decades ago he defeated Cody's father 1-2-3 in the ring. But since that was in another company god forbid anyone bring it up in WWE. >_>

Dustin said in an interview that it was Vince's idea for the character and it gave him a chance to step out of his father's shadow.
