I have a couple of coworkers who dont use my preferred name when speaking to me or about me with other coworkers. Ive reminded them each at least 7-8 times that Id prefer they use my lifelong nickname and not my legal name. One will usually use my preferred name for a couple of days after being reminded but then always goes right back to the one I dont like.

Its not a major difference in names either. Think Joseph asking to be called Joe or Richard asking to be called Rick. Pretty easy to remember. When youve asked them multiple times to call you Joe and they continue calling you Joseph, its just disrespectful.

How should I address this so they will start remembering? Though at this point it seems less like a memory issue and more of an Im doing this because I know it annoys you issue.
My boss always uses my full first name despite the fact that nobody else does. I dont really mind, but I also dont get it.

No matter our origin, we are all one family, we all share one planet, and we all need to feel loved and accepted. We are more alike than different.

No it is annoying. I've had the opposite problem though. I prefer my legal name but I've had people insist on calling me by the short version.

I've had two different people named Michael Hunt at my work place, and both of them are adamant about being called Michael and not Mike. They don't appreciate people paging for them by the shortened version. I thought it was odd that we had not one but two by this exact name but later I was told one was the other's father. If he hated his name so much, why burden his son with it?

I'm not making this up as a lame joke.
I'm not here for friends. I'm here for the truth to the best of my knowledge of it, even if it's not what people want to hear.
Change your legal name to your nickname

Less is more. Everything you want, isn't everything you need.

Was he a Jr or did he have a different middle name. Cause that's the solution Michale Jr or Michale and first initial of his middle name.

I used to piss my grandad off if I called him Jr. He'd start griping and say I'm not a Jr my dad is dead and I'd ask him what his birth certificate says on it.

Are you the newest employee? If they already had a Joe then you'll get to be Joseph by default unless you tell them to use Joey.

Actress Ginnifer Goodwin did something like that. Her name was Jennifer, but her family always pronounced it Ginnifer. Then a college professor refused to pronounce it like that. So she legally changed the spelling.

I have a coworker that uses my full name instead of my nickname that I prefer. I really don't get it either. I mean I even call him by his nickname, so I don't know why he doesn't extend that courtesy to me. I've never said anything, though, since it's not that big of a deal, but it's weird.
Many Bothans died to bring you this post.
At my place this could be an actual real and relevant problem.

Mostly because of some problematic first name.

I realise this is a copypasta but for the longest time I hated being referred to by the long version of my name. Now I sign off emails and texts using it, and introduce myself with it too.

I honestly dont give a shit what version of my name anyone uses. My names Sam. Im not particularly fond of Sammy but there's been a few people who can call me that that I don't mind.

Also a job I used to work at this girl would accentuate my name to Sam-you-el when we would tease each other. I fuckin loved that lol

I don't want this man's life, I want his sandwiches.
I couldn't conceive of picking what version of my name people use. So many permutations and nicknames. Only my parents use my full name.

I mean, if your nickname is "Ass Lord ," then I probably wouldn't use it either. I probably wouldn't communicate with you at all, as a matter of fact.

Yeah it's not the first time he's done that, there's no original thoughts rattling around up there.

Yes. It is.

I have this person tagged as a righty troll, so there's zero chance they are posting this in good faith.
