Same. I'm like, "Who the hell is Larry Dalrymple?" assuming it's some new failed character they tried to introduce after I stopped watching the show. Nope, it's that one barfly at Moe's who I'm not sure has ever even spoken, but apparently has a full name. Amazing.

I don't get why the Simpsons (and other shows) kill off no-name characters in an attempt to generate interest

I mean, killing Maude was pretty WTF and a jump-the-shark moment but it at least had an impact on Ned and their kids

Only the most die-hard fans would know who Larry even is (and I had no clue what his last name was, or if he even had one prior to this episode)

My god the writers are such cowards. Half-assing killing people off. Like, if you're gonna do that do it to a character who actually has a relationship to a character that the audience cares about (like Maude). Or hell, even one who has had more than one line of dialogue in his whole 35 year existence.

Kill off Lenny, Carl, or Barney.

The Simpsons is such a godawful show. At this point it's been unwatchable for way longer than it was ever funny.
